A
Systems Engineer is responsible for the provisioning, deployment, configuration, and administration of a wide range of IT infrastructure and systems. This role supports and manages technologies, including Microsoft servers, PCs, VMware ESXi hosts, network-attached storage (NAS), network monitoring tools, and VPN solutions. As a multidisciplinary professional, the Systems Engineer designs, implements, and maintains complex IT systems, ensuring that hardware, software, and operational processes work seamlessly together. The role emphasizes system reliability, performance, security, and scalability to support business operations and organizational goals.
Job Duties
- Works closely with the System Architect and the Cyber Security section to administer the Active Directory and Group Policy of the domain.
- VMware ESXi host, SAN, and NAS configuration and maintenance
- System Design & Architecture: Developing blueprints for infrastructure, selecting appropriate hardware and software, and defining system requirements based on stakeholder needs.
- Implementation: Installing and configuring servers, operating systems (Linux, Windows), networks, and application software.
- Maintenance & Monitoring: Using tools like Nagios or Splunk to monitor system health, optimize performance, and ensure high availability.
- Automation: Writing custom scripts (Python, Bash, PowerShell) to automate repetitive tasks and reduce manual intervention.
- Security & Reliability: Implementing security protocols, managing firewalls, and establishing backup and disaster recovery strategies.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues across the entire system stack.
- Stakeholder Feedback Integration: Regularly interviewing or surveying end-users to identify system pain points and translating those needs into technical requirements for future system upgrades.
- Manage software deployments and Windows Updates.
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted departments.
- Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
- Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages, scheduling upgrades, and collaborating with network architects on network optimization.
- Update, maintain all documentation requested by management and will be tasked with improving such documentation as required.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
- Accomplishes information systems and the organization's mission by completing related tasks as needed.
- Takes immediate corrective action(s) against unsafe conditions to the best of one's own ability
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related program.
- 5+ years’ experience with expert knowledge of all major Microsoft Windows operating systems, Windows servers, and Office 365, Problem Solving, 3+ years’ experience in VMware ESX/ESXi, SAN and NAS, LAN Knowledge, Proxy Servers, Networking Knowledge, VOIP, Network Troubleshooting, Network Performance Tuning, People Management.
- CompTIA Network+ , MCSE, VMware ESX/ESXi or CCNA preferred
Skills/ Abilities
- Proficiency in Operating Systems (UNIX/Linux, Windows Server).
- Experience with Cloud Platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure, GCP).
- Strong Networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs).
- Familiarity with Virtualization & Containerization (VMware, Hyper-V)
- Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving, communication (explaining technical concepts to non-technical staff), and project management abilities
Location
This position will be on-site based in Duluth, Georgia.
