Job Description
This position provides staff support to the Lodi Youth Commission. The purpose of the Lodi Youth Commission is to affect positive growth in young adults through a variety of activities that will generate interest and participation with the greater Lodi area.
Examples of Duties
Provide staff assistance to the Lodi Youth Commission, including the preparation of all agendas for Regular and Special meetings of the LYC; prepare all budgets and financial statements for planning and review; be responsible for all revenue generated by the LYC and work with finance for proper accounting.
Represent the Lodi Youth Commission at City Functions/Activities; work with community agencies to secure Commissioners involvement.
Recruit and train adult advisors for the Lodi Youth Commission; recruit and train students to be Commissioners
Maintain current Lodi Youth Commission By-Laws; continue history and records of the Lodi Youth Commission; meet monthly with commissioners for planning and mentoring; participate as an agency member in California Coalition for Youth.
Attend Hutchins Street Square staff meetings; support the Hutchins Street Square Foundation in their events.
Encourage and direct Commissioners to find a venue for public service; work with local Teen Center and partner on community youth projects.
Provide financial support in the form of Scholarship for seniors; secure special funding for projects and activities as needed.
Prepare all news releases and advertising.
Work closely with Lodi Unified School District and Lodi Police Dept.
Provide safe and fun activities for junior and senior high students.

Experience
Typical Qualifications
Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the development and administration of related programs. Experience with youth and youth-related programs, including experience providing staff assistance and support to a related board or commission.
Education
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a related field.

TESTING PROCESS: Candidates considered to be among the most qualified will be required to participate in a qualification appraisal testing process. This may include oral interviews, assessment exercises, and physical exercises. Fingerprints and/or background clearance is part of the testing process.

HIRING PROCEDURE - Applicants must possess the minimum qualifications by the final filing date. Eligible lists are established upon successful completion of the selection process. The candidates must be successful in each part of the testing. To fill each vacancy the hiring department will request names to be certified from the eligible list and will make a selection from this certification list.
CONDITIONAL JOB OFFERS - Conditional job offers are subject to successful completion of a medical drug screen and/or physical. Candidates should not quit or give notice to their current employer until final notification has been awarded by the Human Resources Division.
MEDICAL-DRUG SCREENING – All positions may be subject to a physical or drug screen issued by a qualified medical physician assigned by the Human Resources Division. Under the requirements of the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988, the City of Lodi has been designated as a drug-free workplace.
APPOINTMENT - At the time of appointment all candidates will be required to execute an oath of allegiance and complete Form I-9 - Employment Eligibility Verification in compliance with the Immigration and Naturalization Act. United States citizenship is not required. All new appointees are required to successfully complete a probationary period of twelve months.
PAY RANGE - The pay range is shown on the job announcement. Eligibility for the first merit increase is effective after 12 months and for additional merit increases after one year intervals until the employee has reached the maximum step. The City does not participate in Social Security except for the required Medicare contribution. The City participates in Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS). PARS is an alternative retirement plan to Social Security for part-time, seasonal, and temporary employees.
