The City of Battle Creek is pleased to announce that the Fire Department is currently accepting applications for prospective candidates interested in joining our team! This posting will remain open until we begin our next Entry Level Firefighter Eligibility List process, which is expected to begin Fall 2026. The process includes a written test, physical agility test, and an oral exam conducted by a panel. Scores from these assessments will be compiled to create an eligibility list.

The department is looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
- Hold a valid driver’s license
- No prior Firefighter I, II, or Medical First Responder certifications are required, as the department provides certification upon hiring if candidates do not already have it.
