Carmel Landscapes is a landscape design and construction company building custom hardscapes and outdoor living spaces throughout the Chagrin Valley. We value quality craftsmanship, teamwork and sustainable construction that complements the natural beauty of Northeast Ohio.
We are seeking a hands-on Hardscape Foreman with strong masonry OR carpentry skills who can perform quality work and teach a crew to do the same. You will build alongside your crew, organize daily tasks, demonstrate proper methods and maintain our standards for workmanship, safety and professional communication.
THE WORK
Our projects include stone and paver patios, natural stone and retaining walls, outdoor kitchens, pergolas, fireplaces, fire and water features, custom masonry and outdoor lighting. Bring proven ability in masonry or carpentry and the willingness to keep developing your skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform construction work alongside your crew and lead by example.
- Read drawings and workorders, lay out assigned work accurately, and communicate the plan to the crew.
- Organize daily tasks, tools, equipment and materials so work progresses safely and efficiently.
- Teach construction methods through explanation and demonstration; check the crew's work and provide clear, constructive feedback.
- Monitor workmanship, grades and measurements; identify problems early and communicate solutions with management.
- Maintain a clean, organized jobsite, use materials responsibly and follow company procedures.
- Communicate professionally with clients and management about progress, questions and unexpected conditions.
COMPANY APPS AND JOB DOCUMENTATION
- Use company apps to record job time, material use and work completed accurately and consistently.
- Upload clear progress photos and write useful notes about jobsite conditions, issues and remaining work.
- Communicate changes and questions promptly, keeping records current as work progresses.
- Learn and follow the company's documentation process and help crew members use it correctly.
Practical ability to complete these tasks is required; familiarity with apps alone is not sufficient.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 4+ years of hands-on hardscape construction experience.
- Strong masonry skills involving natural stone, pavers or block OR strong wood-construction and carpentry skills. You must be able to perform and teach the work in your trade.
- Ability to organize crew work, demonstrate safe methods and develop other employees' skills.
- Proficiency operating construction equipment such as excavators and compactors.
- Accurate job layout and measurement skills, including squaring layouts using the Pythagorean theorem and making radius cuts.
- Ability to use levels, laser levels and altimeters, establish elevations and shoot grade.
- Familiarity with building codes applicable to assigned work.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to perform physical outdoor construction work and lift and/or move 50+ pounds.
- Clear verbal and written communication, teamwork and dependable completion of job documentation.
Low-voltage electrical experience is a plus, but is not required.
BENEFITS
- Full-time, year-round employment available.
- Medical, dental and vision benefits available for full-time employees.
- Paid time off under the company PTO policy.
- Paid holidays off in addition to PTO.
- Paid training and professional development opportunities.
TO APPLY
Submit an application, resume and professional references. A portfolio of previous work is welcome; explain which work you personally performed.
The interview process includes a practical demonstration relevant to your trade, such as framing, veneering a pillar, shooting grade or laying pavers. We will also review how you explain a task to a crew member and complete sample job documentation.
We hire around demonstrated skills and individual strengths. If your experience or career goals don't match every part of this foreman role, we still encourage you to apply. Whether you excel at hands-on craftsmanship, teaching others, or managing people and projects, we may consider you for another available role with more or less management responsibility. We'll discuss where your abilities and interests best fit Carmel's needs.
Carmel Landscapes is an equal opportunity employer that values professionalism, skilled craftsmanship and a positive work environment. We welcome qualified candidates from all backgrounds.
