Role Description The Logistics Operations Specialist is responsible for coordinating daily freight movements, monitoring shipment status, and resolving operational issues to ensure timely and accurate delivery. This contract role involves working closely with carriers and shippers to schedule pickups and deliveries, optimize routes, and address service inquiries. The specialist will manage transportation documentation, update internal systems, and support compliance with company standards and industry regulations. This is a hybrid position based in Chicago, IL, with a mix of on-site and work-from-home responsibilities, requiring regular collaboration with cross-functional teams to improve processes and performance.
Qualifications
- Strong analytical skills to interpret logistics data, identify trends, and make informed operational decisions.
- Customer service experience and a focus on building positive, professional relationships with shippers and carriers.
- Knowledge of transportation management practices, including carrier coordination, routing, and freight brokerage operations.
- Understanding of supply chain management principles and how transportation impacts overall network efficiency.
- Clear and professional communication skills for interacting with internal teams and external partners, both verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency with logistics or TMS software, spreadsheets, and standard office tools; comfort working with digital systems.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and operate in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Prior experience in logistics, freight brokerage, or transportation operations is preferred.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field is beneficial but not required.
