The Director of Operations owns the full repair value stream — from induction, teardown, and evaluation through quotation, repair, test, and return to service — with direct accountability for the site’s operating performance and delivery to plan. This leader is measured on on-time delivery (OTD), work-in-process (WIP) health, earned value to plan (EVM), quality, and cost, and is responsible for the daily operating discipline that keeps the site delivering predictably against customer and financial commitments.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end operations across all component repair cells — induction, teardown, evaluation, quotation, repair, test, and return to service — and deliver the site’s revenue and margin plan.
- Drive on-time delivery (OTD) performance, identifying and clearing the constraints — bench capacity, test equipment, parts, approved data, or labor — that hold up completions.
- Manage work-in-process (WIP) actively: reduce aging WIP, improve flow through the cells, and convert completed units into invoiced deliveries.
- Install and run earned value management (EVM) discipline — tracking earned value and schedule/cost performance against plan, and using the data to drive corrective action.
- Compress the evaluation-to-quote cycle so units clear customer approval and re-enter the repair flow faster.
- Establish a daily management system with tiered accountability and clear metrics, driving a culture of ownership, execution, and continuous improvement.
- Lead capacity and constraint planning — including test equipment, calibration, tooling, and specialized bench capability — to match committed demand.
- Partner with Supply Chain on parts availability, back-order recovery, obsolescence, and rotable / exchange pool management to keep units moving.
- Partner with Quality and Engineering to reduce escapes, rework, and cost of poor quality (COPQ), and to protect airworthiness and approved-data compliance.
- Own the site operating budget and cost performance; manage labor efficiency, utilization, and revenue recognition in coordination with finance.
- Ensure FAA Part 145 regulatory compliance and airworthiness across all repair activity, and serve as a senior FAA- and customer-facing representative for the site.
- Build, develop, and retain the technician and operational leadership team in a competitive South Florida labor market.
- Align with Sales and Program Management on customer commitments, delivery, and return-to-service dates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, or a related field — or equivalent operations leadership experience.
- 10+ years of progressive operations leadership, including accountability for delivery and financial performance in a repair, overhaul, or complex manufacturing environment.
- Direct, hands-on operational leadership within an FAA Part 145 repair station (required).
- Demonstrated track record of improving operational performance — OTD, throughput, WIP, and cost — in a high-mix, low-volume setting.
- Experience owning an operating budget and delivering to revenue and margin commitments.
Desired Skills
- Component / LRU repair experience (major systems, hydraulics/pneumatics, avionics, or electro-mechanical), rather than solely airframe or heavy-check MRO.
- Fluency with earned value management (EVM) and data-driven operating systems (OTD, WIP, SPI/CPI).
- Lean / operational excellence expertise — flow, pull, standard work, constraint management — applied to a repair value stream.
- Strong business acumen connecting shop-floor execution to revenue recognition and margin.
- Hands-on ERP/MRP and MRO / electronic maintenance tracking software experience.
- Experience managing capital, test equipment, and calibration planning for repair capability.
- Working knowledge of approved data, 8130-3 / airworthiness, and FAA / EASA traceability standards.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills; comfort in a high-visibility, accountability-driven environment.
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate a plus.
Salary: $180,000 - $200,000
