Position Overview
The Supply Chain Director is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of supply chain operations to support defense manufacturing and production programs of munitions, weapon systems, and hazardous materials. This includes inventory management and scheduling, supplier management, contract negotiations, risk mitigation, compliance assurance, and problem-solving to ensure on-time delivery of critical components. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in procurement, logistics, inventory management scheduling, supplier relationship management, and transportation, packing, and marking requirements for domestic and international shipments across sea, land, and air.
Key ResponsibilitiesSupplier & Procurement Management
· Develop and execute procurement strategies to secure materials and components that meet program specifications and timelines.
· Coordinate closely with operations to ensure production is never interrupted due to lack of raw material supply or non-compliance in materials or practices.
· Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, negotiating contracts, pricing, and terms to optimize cost efficiency and supply reliability.
· Identify and qualify new suppliers, ensuring they meet industry, contractual, and regulatory requirements, and pro-actively identify cost saving opportunities.
· Lead supplier performance management, including conducting regular audits and implementing corrective actions as needed.
· Provide cost and pricing support to proposal and capture efforts as required
Supply Chain Problem Solving & Risk Management
· Proactively identify and resolve supply chain disruptions that could impact production schedules and program deliverables.
· Implement risk management strategies, including dual sourcing, inventory buffers, and demand forecasting, to mitigate potential supply chain issues.
· Collaborate with internal teams—including engineering, quality, operations, and program management—to align supply chain strategies with overall business and program objectives.
· Develop KPI’s and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall supply chain resilience.
DoD Transportation, Packing, and Marking Compliance
· Ensure all domestic and international shipments (sea, land, and air) comply with US DoD/MIL-STD, DOT, UN/IADA/IMDG transportation, packing, and marking requirements.
· Ensure all shipments, including HAZMAT shipments, comply with Defense Transportation Regulations (DTR), Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) for all shipments.
· Develop and implement best practices for routing, documentation, and export/import compliance.
Compliance & Regulatory Adherence
· Ensure all suppliers, supply chain activities, storage, and material handling comply with applicable industry regulations, including DFARS, ITAR, EAR, FAR, and BATF.
· Work closely with legal and compliance teams to address regulatory requirements, supplier certifications, and contractual obligations.
· Maintain accurate records and documentation for audits, reporting, and government compliance reviews. Represent supply chain in DCMA/DCAA audits and reviews.
· Develop and implement a compliance strategy to ensure all aspects of supply chain responsibilities including inventory management, material handling, and shipping are in compliance upon unannounced inspection by Federal regulators.
Operational Leadership & Strategy
· Develop and oversee supply chain policies, processes, and best practices to align with industry standards and organizational goals.
· Build and lead a high-performing supply chain team, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance management.
· Drive technology adoption and digital transformation in supply chain operations to enhance visibility, traceability, and efficiency.
· Provide executive-level reporting on supply chain performance, risks, and opportunities for strategic improvements.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
10+ years of experience in supply chain management, procurement, or logistics, with a strong background in the defense industry. Defense manufacturing experience preferred, munitions industry experience preferred.
Extensive knowledge of defense procurement regulations, including FAR, DFARS, ITAR, and EAR.
Demonstrated experience in supplier negotiations, contract management, and risk mitigation.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage complex supply chain challenges.
Experience with ERP/MRP systems, data analytics, and supply chain optimization tools.
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
