Transportation Manager
The Transportation Manager reports to the Director of Operations and provides support to them through sourcing and acquisition of contractor resources to provide pickup, delivery, trucking, and logistics services for GLS. This position will utilize a variety of sourcing methods including advertisement, networking, online platforms, to generate leads of possible contract service providers. They will serve as a subject matter expert and educate potential contract service providers on GLS operations, the benefits of being a vendor, and the resources required to be successful.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining all transportation functions relating to parcel operations in and out of facilities to meet customer expectations and achieve both operational and key performance metrics. Provides leadership to contractors and Operations Leadership to ensure customer requirements are achieved while meeting company goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with depot managers in the development of vendor performance goals and long-term operational plans.
- Maximize efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration.
- Set strategic goals for operational efficiency and increased productivity.
- Continuously improve and roll out the density model to all vendors within the network of assigned area.
- Responsible for ensuring the vendors are scheduling inbound/outbound shipments to ensure most economical utilization based on service parameters.
- Partner with departments to resolve any problems associated with vendors and vendor relations.
- Provide transportation support and assistance to operations as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all contractors for contract, insurance requirements, business license and FMCSA good driving standards.
- Ensure that all vendors meet the requirements of the Carrier Selection Procedure and are following all facets as required.
- Promote employee safety and take proactive steps to create a positive safety culture.
- Plan, monitor, and analyze key metrics for day-to-day operations to ensure efficient and timely completion of tasks.
- Assess current processes and create procedures and/or programs as required.
- Support business development sales and marketing efforts as needed, to include customer presentations and direct the completion of transportation studies and analysis
- Interface/liaison between company and vendors.
- Manage vendor relationships, onboarding, contract negotiations, and compliance, including meeting with local vendor representatives to discuss transportation related issues, monitoring carrier performance, and reviewing current practice versus potential improvements.
- Manage and negotiate pricing with contract service providers that ensures GLS is receiving competitive rates and service providers can meet their goals.
- Develop and implement a proactive track and trace process to ensure all shipments are delivered in a timely manner; provide track and trace information to the customer in a timely manner.
- Oversee Quarterly Business Reviews with each service provider focused on cost and quality KPI’s of both GLS and the service provider.
- Work closely with GLS Operations and contract service providers on new business implementations.
- Assist contract service providers with understanding the benefits of their contractual interest and with any transitions that may occur from a contracted service provider’s sale or transfer of their business.
- Assist with escalated calls from contractors or supported facilities.
- Other duties, responsibilities, and projects, as assigned.
- Position will be domiciled at one of our locations within the designated area of responsibility.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work history) in a related field.
- Experience in developing budgets and business plans.
- 3 years or more in the transportation industry working with contractors.
- Minimum of 5 years in the managing of contractors and a thorough knowledge of the contract.
- Proven track record in the recruiting of contractors.
- Organizational, communication, and leadership skills, backed by previous professional success.
- Experience with the transportation management function.
- Experience with account management with a logistics organization, preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of industry regulations and legal guidelines.
- Working knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations.

Salary Description
$95,000- $110,000
