Transportation Highway Group Technical Manager — Upstate New York
A well-established, nationally recognised civil engineering consultancy is growing its highway transportation practice across Upstate New York and is looking for a senior Technical Manager to help lead that growth.
This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced engineer who wants real technical ownership — guiding a high-performing team, driving quality, and shaping the future of a practice with a strong NYSDOT and municipal client base already in place.
What you'll do
- Lead senior technical delivery across highway and roadway design projects for NYSDOT and municipal clients across Upstate NY
- Serve as the technical lead on design decisions, QC processes, and compliance with state and industry standards
- Mentor and develop a growing engineering team through feedback, career development, and hands-on guidance
- Manage resource allocation, staffing, and utilisation across multiple projects
- Coordinate with project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies
- Contribute to technical strategy, continuous improvement initiatives, and future capability planning
What you'll bring
- 10+ years of highway and roadway engineering design experience
- Direct NYSDOT project experience and a track record of delivering to quality and compliance standards
- Proven technical leadership or engineering management experience
- B.S. in Civil Engineering and a PE license (preferred or ability to obtain)
- Strong communication skills and a strategic, team-first mindset
