Zeta Energy has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, resourceful, and technically talented individual to work as battery testing engineer with focus of data analytics. As Zeta Energy transitions its technology from prototyping to production, this role is key to support the increasing demand for battery testing while tracking and analyzing the increasing amount of data from materials processing and battery testing. This individual will assist in the execution of battery test scripts and systematization of the cell testing which will produce quality data, supporting Zeta battery models and algorithms. The role will also be responsible for establishing the development of battery data analytics and creating predictive models that will lead to quantitative battery lifetime estimations and early cell failure detection. The candidate will be involved in multiple projects with established deliverables in a vibrant and collaborative environment. The ideal candidate is expected to be analytical, have experience in data analysis/processing, and have background in battery or battery materials research.
Responsibilities- The Battery Testing Engineer will work with our R&D, operations, and partner team members to test, collect, and systematize test requirements aimed at producing data to support (1) cell development and (2) high fidelity battery models and algorithms.
- To design, implement and validate battery test scripts, followed by executing the tests and reporting
- To develop, implement and improve procedures and test methods to ensure the highest levels of productivity and safety are met.
- To drive battery data analytics towards improvements in understanding and predicting battery performance and battery cycle-life degradation
- To work in a multi-disciplinary environment and use state-of-the-art data analytics to identify and quantify key parameters to improve cell performance
- To maintain, operate and install different versions of battery potentiostat/galvanostat
- To keep track of electrical, mechanical and assembly designs and associated documentations related to battery testing and data storage.
- To validate cell results and determine with other team members criteria for pass/fail and optimize battery testing resources utilization.
- Clearly communicate technical matters, schedule considerations, deliverables, and battery testing and processing needs
Qualifications- BS in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or another related field
- 2+ years’ experience in battery testing
- Familiarity with battery technology and lithium-ion batteries
- Familiarity with basic electrical test tools (power supplies, multimeters, battery testers, etc.)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proactive communication and follow-up
- Proactive attitude for lab workflow improvement
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Clear and effective written and interpersonal communication skill for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to respond appropriately during emergencies as directed by the facility manager/ safety officer; ability to evacuate the facility in a timely manner should an emergency arise; and ability to wear and properly use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) if working or visiting within the laboratory area. PPE may include safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, hard hats, or other equipment.
- Ability to perform duties and responsibilities with a flexible work schedule.
Location and Travel Requirements:
- This position is located in Houston, Texas. Occasional travel could include domestic travel to other cities and states and foreign travel, typically to Europe, to support Zeta Energy projects and assets, to collaborate with partners and vendors, or to attend training courses.
