Under general supervision, the Police Officer serves and protects the community through proactive law enforcement, crime prevention, public safety initiatives, and criminal investigations. Officers respond to emergencies, enforce laws and ordinances, preserve peace and order, protect life and property, and foster positive relationships within the community while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and public service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, assess situations, and take appropriate action to protect life and property.
- Patrol assigned areas to deter criminal activity, maintain public safety, and build positive community relationships.
- Enforce federal, state, and local laws, traffic regulations, and municipal ordinances.
- Investigate accidents, criminal offenses, suspicious activities, and citizen complaints.
- Collect, document, preserve, and process evidence in accordance with established procedures.
- Conduct interviews and gather information from victims, witnesses, and suspects.
- Issue citations, make arrests, and prepare cases for prosecution.
- Mediate disputes and resolve conflicts through effective communication, de-escalation, and problem-solving techniques.
- Prepare accurate reports, records, affidavits, and other required documentation.
- Serve warrants, subpoenas, and court orders.
- Testify in court and assist with judicial proceedings as required.
- Provide assistance and information to citizens, visitors, and community organizations.
- Respond to natural disasters, hazardous incidents, and other emergency situations as a first responder.
- Maintain proficiency in departmental policies, legal updates, firearms, defensive tactics, first aid, CPR, and other required certifications.
- Ensure assigned uniforms, equipment, and vehicles are maintained and ready for service.
- Perform additional duties and special assignments as directed.

Education and Certification Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Successful completion of a Law Enforcement Officer Training Program approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA).
- Maintain current OPOTA certification and all department-required training credentials.
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of appointment.
- Maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Successfully meet annual firearms qualification standards.
- Possess and maintain LEADS certification and access eligibility.
- Possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must successfully complete training required by the department.
- Must be a citizen of the United States.

Working Conditions
Police Officers work in a variety of environments, including office settings, patrol vehicles, public spaces, private residences, roadways, and outdoor locations in all weather conditions. The position may involve exposure to hazardous materials, loud noise, moving traffic, dangerous individuals, infectious diseases, and other potentially hazardous conditions.
Officers must be able to stand, walk, sit, run, climb, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, lift, and perform physically demanding activities associated with law enforcement duties. Vision must be correctable to 20/20. The position requires regular exposure to emergency vehicle lights, sirens, and other high-stimulus environments.
