We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused Box Truck Driver to transport goods efficiently and on time. The primary responsibility of this role is transporting produce and other food items using the organization’s box truck/s. The driver will also assist with donation pickups and deliveries and warehouse operations when not on the road, while maintaining professional communication with donors. This role may include weekend work in support of disaster relief missions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate the organization’s box truck to transport produce and other food items safely and efficiently
- Pick up donations from donors and transport them to designated organizational locations
- Load and unload product safely, ensuring proper handling and secure placement
- Plan routes and meet delivery and pickup schedules
- Perform routine vehicle inspections and basic maintenance checks
- Maintain accurate delivery logs and required documentation
- Communicate with logistics coordinator, team members, and donors regarding pickups, deliveries, and scheduling
- Provide professional and courteous interaction with donors during pickups and deliveries
- Follow all traffic laws, DOT regulations, and company safety policies
- Report any vehicle issues, accidents, or delays promptly
- Assist with warehouse duties when not driving, including loading/unloading, organizing inventory, picking and packing orders, and maintaining a clean work environment
Requirements:
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) — Class A or Class B required
- Clean driving record
- Must be registered with the FMCSA Clearinghouse
- Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
- Willingness to participate in random drug testing in accordance with company and DOT regulations
- Ability to lift and move heavy items (typically 50+ lbs)
- Must be able to lift, climb, sit, and drive for extended periods of time
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Good communication and customer service skills, including donor interaction
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to work weekends as needed, especially in support of disaster relief efforts
- Familiarity with GPS devices and routing systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with local and regional deliveries
- Knowledge of DOT regulations
- Forklift certification (a plus)
- Prior warehouse experience
- Experience working with donation-based or nonprofit operations (a plus)
Working Conditions:
- Combination of driving and warehouse environment
- May require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overtime
- Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, and standing
- Extended periods of sitting and driving
- Exposure to varying weather conditions and warehouse environments
- May be deployed for disaster relief missions, including weekend assignments
