Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Deck Installer to join our dynamic construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining decks that enhance the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of residential and commercial properties. Duties
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction plans to accurately execute deck layouts and designs
- Measure, cut, assemble, and install deck components using hand tools and power tools such as saws, drills, and nail guns
- Prepare construction sites by clearing debris, leveling surfaces, and setting foundations or footings for decks
- Install support structures including beams, posts, joists, and framing to ensure stability and safety
- Attach decking boards using appropriate fasteners while maintaining consistent spacing for aesthetic appeal
- Incorporate additional features such as railings, stairs, lighting fixtures, and built-in seating according to project specifications
- Conduct inspections throughout the installation process to ensure compliance with safety standards and building codes
- Coordinate with project managers, electricians, plumbers, and other trades to integrate electrical wiring, plumbing fixtures, or other utilities as needed
- Use heavy equipment operation skills when necessary for site preparation or material handling
- Perform restoration work post-installation including caulking, sealing joints, or touch-up painting to ensure a finished look
- Maintain a clean work environment by organizing tools and disposing of waste materials responsibly
- Stay updated on current building codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices
Experience
- Proven experience in construction site work with a focus on deck installation or related carpentry projects
- Strong knowledge of blueprint reading and schematic interpretation for accurate project execution
- Skilled in the use of hand tools such as hammers, chisels, levels; power tools including saws, drills, grinders; and heavy equipment when applicable
- Familiarity with construction management principles to coordinate tasks efficiently on-site
- Experience with construction estimating processes to assist in project planning and resource allocation
- Knowledge of building codes related to deck construction, safety standards, and inspection procedures
- Background in working with various materials such as wood, composite decking products, concrete forms for footings or supports
- Ability to perform detailed craftsmanship including trim carpentry, framing, roofing basics related to decks (e.g., flashing), masonry elements if applicable
- Experience with fixture installation like lighting or built-in features is a plus
- Proficiency in using Bluebeam software for digital plan review or documentation is advantageous
- Construction site experience involving plumbing or electrical integration enhances versatility
- Strong communication skills for collaborating effectively with team members and clients
