Job Summary
Sippel Development is seeking a skilled and motivated Pipe Layer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing underground utilities including storm, sanitary, and water systems. This is a hands-on position that requires attention to detail, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Install pipelines and underground utilities according to project specifications
- Act as a lead laborer and follow direction from the Foreman
- Ensure proper alignment, grade, and installation of pipes and fittings
- Monitor trenching, excavation, and shoring for safety compliance
- Identify and communicate safety concerns to supervisors
- Assist with project planning, layout, and execution
- Support team members and help mentor less experienced crew members
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 1 year of pipe laying experience
- Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations (trenching, shoring, confined spaces)
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
- 3+ years of experience in pipe laying, utilities, or grading
- Trade school certificate or related degree
Skills & Competencies
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Basic math skills for measurements and layout
- Effective communication and teamwork
Work Environment
- Outdoor construction sites in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to noise, dust, vibration, and heavy equipment
- Active job sites with moving vehicles and machinery
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly
- Comfortable working on uneven terrain
- Must be able to wear required PPE
- Ability to safely use hand and power tools
Schedule & Travel
- Full-time (40+ hours per week)
- Overtime, evenings, and weekends may be required
- Occasional travel to job sites
