Position Summary
The Director of Logistics is responsible for the strategic leadership, growth, and profitability of JRC’s Logistics Division. This individual will lead a team of Customer Experience Managers and Carrier Relationship Managers while overseeing freight brokerage operations, carrier development, customer service performance, and financial results.
This role is accountable for departmental revenue growth, gross margin performance, operating profit, customer retention, carrier network development, and team leadership. The Director of Logistics will play a key role in expanding JRC's brokerage platform by leveraging the company's extensive trailer network to create competitive advantages for customers and maximize enterprise profitability.
The ideal candidate is an experienced transportation leader who combines strong operational expertise with financial acumen, strategic thinking, and a passion for developing people.
Essential Job Functions
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Customer Experience Managers and Carrier Relationship Managers.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer service, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching sessions, and development planning for team members.
- Establish clear performance expectations and hold team members accountable for results.
- Manage staffing levels and organizational structure to support operational demands and growth objectives.
- Support and promote JRC's core values and culture throughout the department.
Operational Management
- Direct daily logistics and brokerage operations to ensure exceptional service execution and customer satisfaction.
- Oversee freight movement while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Monitor service levels and proactively resolve operational issues impacting customers or carriers.
- Develop and implement process improvements that increase efficiency, visibility, and scalability.
- Utilize transportation technology and reporting tools to drive operational performance.
Power-Only Brokerage & Carrier Development
- Lead and grow JRC's power-only brokerage operation utilizing the company's extensive trailer fleet.
- Develop strategies to maximize trailer utilization and minimize trailer dwell time across the network.
- Build and maintain a high-quality carrier network capable of supporting customer requirements and growth initiatives.
- Establish strong carrier relationships while ensuring compliance with safety, insurance, and service standards.
- Collaborate with Asset Operations and Dedicated Operations teams to maximize enterprise profitability through effective trailer and freight allocation.
- Monitor market conditions and adjust procurement and pricing strategies accordingly.
Customer Growth & Retention
- Maintain strong relationships with key customers and strategic accounts.
- Partner with Sales and Executive Leadership to support new business development and customer expansion opportunities.
- Ensure customer expectations are consistently met or exceeded.
- Participate in customer meetings, business reviews, and strategic planning discussions.
- Support contract implementation and operational onboarding of new business.
Financial Management
- Own and manage the Logistics Division P&L.
- Develop and execute strategies to achieve revenue, gross margin, and operating profit targets.
- Monitor key financial metrics and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
- Analyze market conditions, pricing trends, and operational performance to support informed decision-making.
- Prepare and present financial and operational performance reports to executive leadership.
Strategic Planning
- Develop short-term and long-term departmental goals aligned with company objectives.
- Identify opportunities for growth, process improvement, technology adoption, and operational optimization.
- Drive initiatives that improve productivity, profitability, customer satisfaction, and employee engagement.
- Support enterprise-wide initiatives and cross-functional collaboration.
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, or supply chain experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience managing transportation, brokerage, or logistics teams.
- Proven experience managing departmental P&L performance and achieving profitability objectives.
- Demonstrated success leading teams, developing talent, and driving organizational performance.
- Experience managing customer relationships and carrier procurement activities.
- Strong understanding of truckload transportation, freight brokerage, pricing, and market dynamics.
- Working knowledge of transportation regulations and industry compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within both asset-based transportation and third-party logistics environments.
- Experience managing power-only brokerage operations.
- Experience leveraging trailer pools and drop trailer programs as part of a transportation strategy.
- Previous experience with TMW Transportation Management Software.
- MBA or advanced business degree.
- Experience implementing transportation technology, analytics, and automation initiatives.
