About FabTek
FabTek Industries is a precision metal fabrication company serving Tier-1 OEMs in the power grid and energy infrastructure sectors. Operating from our Mississippi facilities with approximately 100 employees, we manufacture mission-critical components that support the modernization and expansion of North America’s electrical grid — one of the most acute infrastructure demand cycles of the next two decades.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Director of Engineering & Estimating to build and lead the engineering function at FabTek. This is a foundational leadership role that will define how we estimate, engineer, and execute work across a growing book of business. The successful candidate will own the engineering organization end-to-end — building the team, standing up the systems, and embedding the discipline that allows FabTek to scale.
What You'll Do
- Design, implement, document, and train the company’s estimating standard operating procedures, establishing a repeatable and accurate approach to quoting work across our customer base
- Build and lead the engineering team, including hiring, developing, and mentoring estimators, design engineers, and manufacturing engineers
- Partner with Production, Purchasing, and Sales to ensure quotes translate cleanly into executable jobs with accurate routings, BOMs, and material specifications
- Drive continuous improvement in estimating accuracy, design-for-manufacturability, and engineering throughput
- Serve as the senior engineering voice with Tier-1 OEM customers on technical reviews, RFQs, and program qualification
- Establish engineering KPIs and reporting cadences that give leadership clear visibility into estimating velocity, quote-to-win conversion, and job performance against estimate
- Collaborate with operations leadership on capacity planning, capital equipment justification, and integration with FabTek’s internal MRP platform
What You Bring
- 15+ years of progressive engineering experience in precision metal fabrication, heavy steel fabrication, structural fabrication, or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated experience building and leading engineering teams in a metal fabrication or made-to-order manufacturing environment
- Deep expertise in estimating methodology for fabricated steel products — including labor routings, material take-offs, and competitive market pricing
- Proven track record designing and implementing engineering SOPs and standard work in a manufacturing setting
- Strong working knowledge of fabrication processes: laser/plasma cutting, forming, welding, machining, finishing, and assembly
- Experience working with Tier-1 industrial OEM customers and navigating their qualification, PPAP, and technical review processes
- Fluency with CAD platforms (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent) and ERP/MRP estimating modules
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field; advanced degree a plus
