We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to support the development of next-generation munition and UAV-integrated systems within a fast-paced defense engineering environment.
This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy owning the full mechanical design lifecycle — from concept development and CAD design through prototyping, testing, and production transfer.
Key Responsibilities
- Design munition housings, internal structures, and arming mechanisms in CAD
- Develop mechanical safety architectures with hardware and software teams
- Define materials, tolerances, finishes, and fasteners for rugged environments
- Build and iterate prototypes using 3D printing and CNC methods
- Execute mechanical qualification testing including drop, shock, vibration, and environmental testing
- Manage BOM, weight distribution, and center-of-gravity calculations
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams on integration activities
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience designing rugged mechanical assemblies in industries such as:
- Defense
- Aerospace
- UAV Systems
- Automotive
- Similar regulated environments
- Strong proficiency with parametric CAD tools such as:
- SolidWorks
- Creo
- Fusion 360
- NX
- Onshape
- Experience creating manufacturing-ready drawings including GD&T and tolerance stack-ups
- Hands-on prototyping experience with FDM/SLA printers, machining, mills, and lathes
- Strong understanding of mechanical failure modes and product reliability
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with safety & arming mechanisms or rugged defense systems
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 or related environmental testing standards
- Experience with FEA/structural simulation tools
- Background in injection molding or metal-casting DFM
- UAV/FPV integration experience is highly preferred
Additional Information
Candidates must be comfortable completing an initial 1-month onsite training period in Kearneysville, WV, before relocating back to their selected work location.
