We have partnered with a leading producer and supplier of construction aggregates, concrete, and ready-mix with a strong commitment to safety, sustainability, and operational excellence across the state of Georgia, USA. We are seeking a highly experienced Transportation Manager to oversee all trucking and transportation operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of materials such as sand, gravel, crushed stone, and other aggregate products.
This role manages drivers, dispatch, fleet utilisation, compliance, maintenance coordination, and customer service to support production and delivery goals.
MAIN JOB TASKS:
- Manage daily trucking and dispatch operations to ensure on-time delivery of aggregate materials to customers, plants, and job sites.
- Supervise, schedule, and support drivers and dispatch personnel.
- Coordinate fleet usage to maximise efficiency, minimise downtime, and control transportation costs.
- Monitor delivery schedules, load assignments, routes, and driver performance.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and company safety policies and procedures.
- Oversee driver qualification files, hours-of-service compliance, vehicle inspections, and regulatory documentation.
- Work closely with plant operations, sales, and customer service teams to align trucking capacity with customer demand.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs with internal maintenance staff or outside vendors.
- Track key performance indicators such as delivery times, fuel usage, truck utilisation, safety incidents, and maintenance costs.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve fleet productivity, reduce costs, and enhance service levels.
- Investigate and resolve customer delivery issues, accidents, claims, and service disruptions.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost management for transportation operations.
- Recruit, train, coach, and evaluate drivers and transportation staff.
- Maintain strong relationships with third-party haulers, vendors, and customers as needed.
- Ensure proper loading practices and compliance with weight limits and site-specific requirement
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in trucking, transportation, dispatch, or fleet operations, preferably in aggregates, construction materials, mining, or a related industry.
- 2+ years of management or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, fleet safety practices, and transportation compliance requirements.
- Experience with dispatch software, GPS/fleet tracking systems, and transportation management systems.
- Understanding of aggregates operations, including load scheduling, job site logistics, and seasonal demand fluctuations, preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
