Position Description:
Seneca Resources is seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure Engineer / Mainframe Systems Manager to support a large public sector organization in New York, NY. This leadership role is ideal for a seasoned infrastructure professional with deep expertise in enterprise mainframe operations, IBM z/OS environments, datacenter infrastructure, disaster recovery, and enterprise systems management.
The selected candidate will lead the Mainframe Systems team responsible for maintaining the stability, performance, security, and availability of mission-critical enterprise infrastructure. This role requires strong technical leadership, strategic planning capabilities, and hands-on experience managing large-scale infrastructure operations in highly complex environments.
This position offers the opportunity to drive modernization initiatives, oversee enterprise infrastructure operations, lead high-impact technical projects, and collaborate across multiple technical and business teams in a mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure & Operations Leadership
- Lead and manage enterprise mainframe infrastructure operations and daily system activities.
- Oversee IBM mainframe systems, z/OS administration, enterprise storage, disaster recovery operations, and related infrastructure technologies.
- Ensure high availability, operational stability, and SLA compliance for critical production systems.
- Provide leadership for infrastructure troubleshooting, incident response, root cause analysis, and operational support activities.
- Coordinate 24/7 operational support and scheduled maintenance activities as needed.
Team Management & Collaboration
- Supervise and mentor technical infrastructure staff while establishing operational goals and performance expectations.
- Coordinate cross-functional infrastructure initiatives with internal technology teams and business stakeholders.
- Serve as a technical escalation point for complex infrastructure issues and enterprise support activities.
Performance Monitoring & Capacity Planning
- Monitor enterprise infrastructure performance and system utilization trends.
- Conduct capacity planning and performance analysis for enterprise systems and datacenter environments.
- Recommend and implement infrastructure improvements to support scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
Project & Technology Management
- Lead infrastructure modernization projects, including hardware refreshes, software upgrades, and enterprise technology implementations.
- Develop project plans, timelines, and implementation strategies for infrastructure initiatives.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging infrastructure technologies and enterprise solutions.
- Ensure enterprise environments remain aligned with current security standards and supported technologies.
Vendor & Documentation Management
- Manage vendor relationships related to infrastructure hardware, software, maintenance, and support services.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, operational procedures, and infrastructure standards.
- Support budget forecasting and infrastructure lifecycle planning activities.
Required Skills/Education:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical field with 4+ years of relevant infrastructure engineering experience; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in any field with 8+ years of relevant infrastructure engineering experience; OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 12+ years of experience supporting enterprise infrastructure operations, datacenter operations, or complex IT infrastructure environments.
- 12+ years of experience with enterprise systems monitoring, troubleshooting, operational support, and infrastructure management.
- 8+ years of experience leading infrastructure-related projects, implementations, and technical coordination efforts.
- 8+ years of experience with infrastructure performance monitoring, capacity planning, and operational analysis.
- 8+ years of experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, operational procedures, and infrastructure standards.
- Experience working with cross-functional infrastructure and enterprise support teams.
- Ability to support critical systems in a 24/7 operational environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 20+ years of experience managing enterprise infrastructure within large-scale environments.
- 10+ years of experience supporting IBM Mainframe and z/OS environments.
- Strong experience with enterprise storage systems, disaster recovery operations, and datacenter infrastructure.
- Experience supporting AIX, Linux, or Unix enterprise environments.
- Proven expertise in infrastructure problem determination, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience leading enterprise infrastructure modernization initiatives and strategic technology planning.
