Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Transportation Logistics Manager to oversee our tractor trailer transportation network supporting waste transfer stations and landfill operations throughout the region. This role is responsible for managing both long-haul and short-haul transportation operations, optimizing routing efficiency, supervising drivers, and ensuring safe, cost-effective daily fleet performance.
The ideal candidate will have strong transportation management experience, a deep understanding of logistics and route optimization, and proven leadership in managing drivers and dispatch operations within a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily transportation operations for tractor trailer hauling between transfer stations and landfills
- Analyze and optimize long-haul and short-haul routes to maximize efficiency and reduce operating costs
- Monitor fleet utilization, fuel consumption, driver productivity, and route performance
- Supervise dispatch operations and ensure timely movement of loads
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, and retain CDL drivers
- Monitor driver performance, attendance, safety compliance, and DOT regulations
- Coordinate maintenance scheduling to minimize downtime and maximize fleet availability
- Develop KPIs and reporting related to route efficiency, turnaround time, fuel usage, and driver productivity
- Work closely with landfill, transfer station, and operations teams to ensure seamless transportation flow
- Manage transportation schedules and respond quickly to operational challenges or delays
- Ensure compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and company safety policies
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and service disruptions while implementing corrective actions
- Assist in budgeting, cost control, and transportation planning initiatives
Qualifications
- 5+ years of transportation or logistics management experience
- Experience managing tractor trailer operations and CDL drivers required
- Strong understanding of route optimization, fleet operations, and dispatch management
- Experience in waste management, environmental services, construction hauling, or trucking operations preferred
- Knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), GPS routing software, and Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, operational environment with changing priorities
