Environmental Services, Inc. (ESI) is a full-service environmental contractor providing turnkey services to commercial, industrial, institutional, municipal customers and government agencies throughout lower New England. We are looking for additional team members for our emergency services crew. Emergency spill field technicians are specialized responders who mitigate, contain, and clean up hazardous and non-hazardous materials after accidents, leaks, or disasters. This role is highly physical and often requires 24/7 on-call availability. We offer team members one week 24 hours on call and one week of local work.
Environmental Services Inc. was founded in 1991 and is the largest privately held environmental services company located in Connecticut. Esi’s emergency response teams are experienced in responding to an extensive range of oil and chemical spills, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With 70-75% of its work being emergency services, trained personnel and specialized equipment can be rapidly mobilized throughout lower New England to handle marine spills, derailments, building fires, uncontrolled reactions, petroleum explosions and fires, releases of hazardous, infectious or unknown substances, and household oil spills.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
- Emergency Response: Responding to incidents at "a moment's notice," including rail, road, and industrial site spills.
- Spill Containment: Implementing protocols to limit the spread of hazardous materials using absorbents, booms, and specialized barriers.
- Cleanup & Remediation: Performing hands-on tasks such as tank cleaning, drum handling, high-pressure washing, and shoveling contaminated materials.
- Hazardous Waste Management: Identifying, sampling, and field-testing unknown substances; overpacking damaged containers and preparing waste for safe transport.
- Decontamination: Cleaning equipment, vehicles, and the affected site to prevent secondary contamination.
- Safety Enforcement: Serving as a site safety officer and ensuring strict adherence to OSHA and HAZWOPER regulations.
- Equipment Operation: Using light and heavy machinery, including vacuum trucks, roll-off trucks, skid steers, pumps, and pallet jacks.
- Documentation: Preparing detailed incident reports, regulatory records, and waste tracking documents.
Technical & Physical Requirements
Common Requirements We provide training.
Certifications: 40-hour HAZWOPER is standard; CDL with Hazmat endorsement preferred.
Physicality: Ability to lift 50+ lbs and wear heavy Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like respirators and hazmat suits.
Environment: Working in confined spaces (manholes, tanks) and extreme weather conditions (heat/cold).
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
