Mid-Coast School of Technology is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and student-centered Outdoor Leadership Instructor for the 2026-27 school year to lead and continue development of a nationally unique, two-year Outdoor Leadership Program serving high school juniors and seniors from Midcoast Maine.
This immersive, field-based program uses the outdoors as a classroom to develop technical outdoor skills, leadership, teamwork, risk management, environmental stewardship, and professional readiness. Students are challenged physically, mentally, and academically through authentic experiences in wilderness travel, maritime education, rescue training, expedition planning, and outdoor living skills.

Qualifications
- The Outdoor Leadership Teacher shall possess and maintain appropriate State of Maine certification. This certification shall be, but not be limited to: CTE Teacher - 874 (Outdoor Leadership) and/or 874 (Parks & Recreation)
- A practical knowledge of industrial, technical, and business operations, together with first-hand knowledge of career and technical education (CTE) and CTE standards is highly desirable.
- Maine Guide License or Park Ranger License.
- Demonstrate excellent people and communication skills.
- Exhibit an ability to work in a team environment offering problem-solving strategies, as well as taking direction from others.

- Maine ecology and environmental stewardship
- Students may pursue certifications including:
- Wilderness First Aid / Advanced Wilderness First Aid
- Red Cross Lifeguard
- CPR / AED
- Leave No Trace Trainer
- Basic Search and Rescue (BASAR)
- Swiftwater Rescue
- Technical Rope Rescue
- Registered Maine Guide preparation
- FEMA Incident Command
- Boater Safety
- Forestry
- AMGA Single Pitch Instructor (when available)
The program also offers dual-enrollment opportunities through Washington County Community College.
- Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging classroom, field-based, and expeditionary instruction
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and professional learning environment
- Teach technical outdoor, rescue, and leadership skills
- Supervise students during day trips, overnight expeditions, and extended field experiences
- Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations and industry professionals
- Coordinate logistics, transportation, equipment, and risk management systems
- Manage program budgets, inventory, and outdoor equipment
- Support student leadership development and career readiness
- Maintain alignment with Maine CTE standards and industry best practices
- Communicate effectively with students, families, sending schools, and community partners
