JOB SUMMARY
This position supports the City's central GIS Division by administering ArcGIS Enterprise systems, managing enterprise geodatabases and web services, and performing advanced geoprocessing, automation, and system integrations. The role optimizes geospatial data pipelines, supports GIS project delivery, and collaborates with IT on databases, security, and infrastructure requirements to maintain data integrity and deploy new GIS technologies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Geography, Geospatial Science, Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Urban Planning, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related field. A minimum of one to two years of professional geospatial or GIS-related experience is preferred, including experience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online/Enterprise, and spatial analysis tools.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. This may include a bachelor's degree in Geography, Cartography, or a related discipline supplemented with coursework or training in geospatial technologies (e.g., GIS/CAD applications, Windows-based systems, SQL Server). One to two years of applied geospatial or related technical experience is preferred.
Special Requirements:
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical skills, attention to detail, technical proficiency in current GIS software, and the ability to communicate complex spatial information clearly to both city staff and citizens. Possession of a valid class "C" Texas driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of principles and practices of geographic information systems (GIS), cartography, and spatial analysis.
- Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Enterprise Portal, Field Maps, Survey123).
- Skill in application of ArcGIS Pro to create, edit, analyze, and manage spatial data.
- Skill in producing high‑quality maps, dashboards, story maps, and web apps.
- Skill in scripting language such as Python (ArcPy) to improve efficiency and automate repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work independently under the general supervision of a higher GIS or other agency supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is sedentary and requires the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: fingering, handling, hearing, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
