MEP Director of Project Controls – Mechanical
A growing mechanical contractor is seeking a Director of Project Controls to lead and standardize project controls functions across the organization. This individual will drive alignment between estimating, scheduling, virtual construction, and operations while ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with full performance visibility. This role will play a critical part in building scalable processes, improving forecasting accuracy, and supporting executive decision-making as the company continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement company-wide project controls strategy aligned with growth objectives
- Establish standardized processes for cost management, scheduling, forecasting, and reporting
- Oversee project budgeting, cost tracking, and financial forecasting across all active projects
- Analyze cost and schedule performance, identifying risks and driving corrective actions
- Lead scheduling efforts, ensuring proper use of CPM and other methodologies
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies across cost and schedule
- Build and maintain reporting frameworks, dashboards, and KPIs for executive visibility
- Partner with estimating and preconstruction teams to ensure accurate project setup and baseline alignment
- Support project teams throughout the lifecycle with controls expertise and performance insights
- Drive continuous improvement, system implementation, and process optimization
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of project controls professionals, including schedulers, cost engineers, and analysts
- Establish clear roles, performance expectations, and development plans
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10–15+ years of experience in project controls, construction management, or related field
- Strong background in cost control, scheduling, and project performance analytics
- Experience working in construction or mechanical contracting environments preferred
