Role Description
The Process Quality Engineer requires a strong technical and design background, coupled with good communication skills and an understanding of sheet metal fabrication manufacturing processes. Ensures the facility operates in compliance with its established Quality Management System, confirming product compliance according to applicable standards prior to distribution to customers.
Essential Duties
- Drive designs, coordination, and implementation of projects.
- Monitor the entire production cycle for malfunctions and productivity issues.
- Able to read, understand and modify drawings and schematics.
- Design and optimize strategies to improve efficiency, reduce cycle time, and increase product quality.
- Implement process control measures to ensure quality and reduce variation.
- Collaborate with engineering and production to ensure compliance according to established standards.
- Use and understand Lean Manufacturing principle.
- Drive KPI (Key Process Indicators) improvements revolving around Safety, Quality, Delivery & Cost (SQDC) and execution of customer demand at the department level.
- Able to manage multiple projects, multiple deadlines, assuring schedules are defined and met, to prioritize work appropriately to meet commitments.
- Monitor manufacturing processes to verify quality and promote quality first.
- Ability to use manufacturing data to implement process change.
- Understand cost impact of process challenges and provide root cause and corrective actions.
- Evaluates scrap and rework data with implementation of corrective action.
- Evaluates and develops manufacturing methods to improve labor efficiency and quality and reduce work in process and scrap.
Qualifications, Education and Experience Requirements
- Previous experience as a process quality manufacturing engineer or similar role.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and tool design.
- Familiarity with manufacturing equipment and quality assurance techniques.
- Commitment to health and safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Well-versed in relevant software (e.g. CAD, MS Office).
- Good mix of commercial and leadership skills as well as the ability to communicate easily at both the technical and non-technical level.
- Strong analytical and math skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to identify, assess, and solve problems.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated record of building and maintaining effective working relationships with customers, peers, subordinates, and management.
- Problem-solving ability.
- Teamwork skills.
- Ability to occasionally work late shifts.
- Experience in leading and managing audits to ISO 9001, AS9100, or ISO 13485.
- Degree in Engineering, preferably mechanical or equivalent experience.
