We’re partnering with an innovative engineering organisation focused on advancing autonomous maritime systems. Their work centres on building intelligent, sensor-driven platforms that enhance safety, awareness, and performance in complex ocean environments.
About the role:
This position sits within a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for designing and integrating sensing technologies used in autonomous surface systems. You’ll play a key role in bringing together hardware such as radar, cameras, LiDAR, GPS, and other sensors into a unified perception system that enables real-time situational awareness.
This is a practical, hands-on opportunity suited to someone who enjoys tackling challenging real-world problems and contributing to cutting-edge autonomy solutions.
Key responsibilities:
- Act as a subject matter expert for perception hardware and system integration
- Work cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, software, optical, and manufacturing teams
- Define system requirements and validation strategies for sensing technologies
- Ensure technical deliverables are achieved in line with project timelines
- Lead design reviews and communicate technical progress clearly
- Develop and execute testing and analysis plans for hardware and subsystems
- Build and manage relationships with external suppliers and vendors
- Design calibration tools and fixtures to support scalable production
- Provide hands-on support to manufacturing teams for troubleshooting and issue resolution
Essential:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline
- At least 2 years’ experience working on complex hardware systems
- Strong grounding in engineering principles and problem-solving
- Practical experience with sensor integration, testing, and validation
- Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (Siemens NX or similar preferred)
- Familiarity with engineering analysis methods such as tolerance analysis, simulations, and system testing
- Ability to obtain security clearance
Desirable:
- Experience working in maritime or similarly dynamic environments
- Background in developing and validating sensor or optical systems in aerospace, defence, or marine applications
- Knowledge of designing for shock, vibration, or harsh operating conditions
- Previous involvement in defence-related programmes or autonomous vehicle systems
- Professional engineering certification
What’s on offer:
- Comprehensive healthcare coverage (including dental and vision)
- Competitive salary with performance-based incentives
- Generous holiday allowance and paid parental leave
- Retirement savings plan
- Equity/stock options
