Title: Construction GC IT Director
Location: San Jose, CA
Compensation: $200,000 to $250,000 base salary, depending on experience
Position Overview
We are seeking an IT Director to lead all technology initiatives for a well established construction company based in the Bay Area. This person will serve as the head of IT, overseeing the company’s overall technology strategy, infrastructure, systems, cybersecurity, support operations, and emerging AI initiatives. The right individual will be a hands on leader who can think strategically, drive innovation, and partner effectively with both business and project teams.
This role is ideal for someone who understands how technology supports a construction organization and can help build a more connected, efficient, and forward thinking operation. Prior experience working for a general contractor is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the company’s IT department and serve as the senior technology leader across the organization
- Develop and execute the overall IT strategy in alignment with business goals and operational needs
- Drive the company’s AI strategy, including evaluating tools, identifying use cases, and implementing solutions that improve efficiency, communication, reporting, and project execution
- Partner with executive leadership, operations, project teams, accounting, HR, and other departments to ensure technology supports the broader business
- Oversee all IT infrastructure, systems, hardware, software, networks, cloud environments, and end user support
- Lead cybersecurity efforts, including risk management, system protection, data security, user access, training, and business continuity planning
- Evaluate, implement, and optimize enterprise applications and construction related technologies
- Improve workflows and systems integration across departments, including office and field operations
- Manage IT vendors, consultants, software providers, and third party technology partners
- Develop and manage the IT budget, including forecasting, planning, and cost control
- Build, mentor, and lead the internal IT team while helping establish priorities, standards, and long term roadmaps
- Ensure reliable support for both office and field teams, including jobsite technology needs
- Stay current on technology trends, AI advancements, and best practices relevant to the construction industry
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive IT experience, with strong leadership experience overseeing an IT function or department
- Prior experience as an IT Manager, Senior IT Manager, IT Director, or similar leadership role
- Experience working for a general contractor or within the construction industry strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, enterprise systems, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, and end user support
- Experience leading technology strategy and aligning IT initiatives with business objectives
- Demonstrated ability to partner cross functionally with both business and operations teams
- Experience evaluating and implementing AI tools, automation platforms, or emerging technologies in a business setting is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of systems integration, process improvement, and technology enablement
- Experience managing IT vendors, contracts, and budgets
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with executives, field leaders, and project teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred
Preferred Background
- Experience supporting project teams, field operations, and construction specific software ecosystems
- Familiarity with ERP systems, document management platforms, project management tools, collaboration systems, and reporting platforms commonly used in construction
- Experience building or improving AI and automation strategies within a mid sized or large organization
- Ability to balance strategic planning with day to day operational execution
