About the Company
We are a venture-backed manufacturing startup building the most advanced automated production facilities in the United States. We are on a mission to make American manufacturing economically viable — through intelligent machinery, automation, and a relentless focus on execution. We are early, we are moving fast, and we are looking for exceptional people who want to build something that matters.
Role Summary
We're hiring our first Mechanical Engineer — someone who will help design and build large-scale industrial manufacturing equipment from the ground up and, over time, grow into leading the mechanical engineering function. This is a hands-on, ownership-heavy role for someone who moves comfortably between CAD and the shop floor.
Responsibilities
- Design mechanical systems and assemblies for large-scale industrial manufacturing equipment, from concept through production-ready builds
- Generate detailed part drawings, work orders, and BOMs to hand off to fabrication and build technicians
- Work directly alongside build technicians on the shop floor to guide assembly, troubleshoot fit/function issues, and iterate in real time
- Own the design-to-manufacture handoff process, ensuring designs are buildable, documented, and repeatable
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical and controls engineers — including remote teammates — to integrate mechanical systems into complete machine builds
- Help establish mechanical engineering standards, processes, and team culture as the function grows
Preferred Experience
- 4+ years of mechanical engineering experience in a hands-on, build-oriented environment
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent) and generation of manufacturing drawings and work orders
- Demonstrated experience taking a mechanical design from concept through fabrication and assembly
- Comfortable working directly with machinists and build technicians on the shop floor
- Familiarity with large-scale or heavy industrial equipment design
- Effective communicator and collaborator in a distributed team environment — comfortable with async communication and remote-first workflows
- Flexible with schedule and hours; thrives in a startup environment where priorities shift and urgency is real
Nice to Have
- Experience at an early-stage hard tech or deep tech startup
- Prior experience on a small team where you wore multiple hats
- Exposure to high-speed rotating machinery or precision mechanical systems
- Any prior team lead or mentorship experience
Additional
- Willingness to travel as needed for vendor visits, factory acceptance testing, and on-site equipment commissioning
- Comfort with a startup pace — this role demands flexibility, self-direction, and a bias toward getting things done over waiting for perfect conditions
Equal Opportunity Statement
We are committed to diversity and inclusivity in our hiring practices.
