Anticipated – Transportation Director
Estimated Start Date – July 1, 2026
Regional School Unit 13 is seeking an experienced Transportation Director to oversee transportation operations. The ideal candidate will manage fleet maintenance, route optimization, safety compliance, and personnel, ensuring safe and on-time delivery of students/staff. The position is Non-Aligned Administrative.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement transportation strategies to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
- Operations Management: Oversee daily transportation activities, including dispatches, routes, and fleet scheduling.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations, including Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT), Maine Department of Education (MDOE), U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) rules. Adheres to transportation related training requirements for drivers and district mechanic.
- Budgeting: Develop, monitor, and manage the transportation department budget.
- Team Supervision: Lead, train, and evaluate a team of school bus and van drivers.
- Vendor Relations: Manage relationships with external vendors, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transportation, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
- 5+ years of experience with personnel supervision and logistics.
- Working knowledge of transportation department health and safety compliance and testing.
- In-depth knowledge of motor safety standards, labor relations, federal and state DOT regulations.
- Strong proficiency in computer software, GPS tracking, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver's license (CDL Class A/B preferred) and a clean driving record.
