A Day in the Life of the Transportation Manager
In this role, you’ll oversee day-to-day transportation operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and alignment with company goals. You’ll play a key role in optimizing logistics strategies, improving fleet performance, and leading a team to deliver high-quality service. Your work will directly impact operational success, cost management, and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee transportation operations to ensure alignment with organizational goals and industry best practices
- Develop and implement strategies to improve fleet performance, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery
- Lead, mentor, and develop transportation staff to drive performance and growth
- Optimize route planning and logistics using transportation management systems
- Monitor fleet performance, driver behavior, and compliance using real-time tracking tools
- Manage fleet assets, including utilization, maintenance, and lifecycle tracking
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, safety standards, and internal policies
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives to improve operational efficiency
- Manage vendor relationships to ensure high-quality service delivery
- Maintain strong customer service through timely deliveries and effective issue resolution
- Oversee recruitment, training, and performance management of transportation personnel
Requirements and Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in transportation, shipping, or fleet management
- Prior experience with safety, logistics, time management, planning, etc
- 5+ years of leadership experience with a focus on team development
- Strong knowledge of and expertise in DOT & FMCSA
- Proficiency in data analytics tools to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Able to work 7 am to 4 pm in the office, with open availability 24-7, as well as work nights when needed
