The Logistics & Shipping Manager is responsible for the safe, accurate, and on-time shipment of finished goods and inbound materials. This role leads a team of direct reports and owns day-to-day warehouse/shipping execution, carrier coordination, and documentation. The Logistics & Shipping Manager partners closely with Production, Purchasing, and Customer Service to improve delivery performance, freight cost, inventory accuracy, and process efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop shipping/logistics team members; set daily priorities, maintain coverage, and reinforce safe work practices.
- Plan and execute daily shipping schedules to meet customer delivery requirements and internal production/pack-out timelines.
- Coordinate carriers and freight (LTL, parcel, and/or dedicated routes as applicable); obtain quotes, schedule pickups, and manage exceptions.
- Ensure accurate shipping documentation and compliance (BOLs, packing lists, labels, hazardous/special handling paperwork if applicable).
- Oversee staging, packaging, and loading activities to prevent damage and ensure product is shipped complete and correct.
- Maintain inventory and transaction accuracy for shipped/received items within the ERP/system of record; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Manage warehouse organization and material flow (5S/visual management); optimize space utilization and efficiency.
- Track logistics KPIs (on-time shipment, freight cost, claims, damages, cycle time); communicate performance and drive corrective actions.
- Handle freight claims, damage investigations, and returns coordination; partner with Customer Service and Quality to resolve issues quickly.
- Support continuous improvement projects, standard work, and training; perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications for Consideration:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 4+ years of experience in shipping/logistics, warehouse operations, or distribution (manufacturing environment preferred).
- Previous experience leading a team (direct reports), including training, scheduling, and performance coaching.
- Working knowledge of carrier coordination, freight documentation, and shipping systems.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office/Excel (or similar) for reporting and communication.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
