Position Description
The Mechanical Engineer will become part of our growing engineering team and will work on an array of interesting and diverse projects. A blend of theoretical and hands-on skills together with adaptability is required as we often engineer a solution and then build concept demonstrators of what we have engineered. Activities may include supporting in new project discovery, input to cost estimating, product development, technical build support, testing planning, and quality assurance activities all to support an overall successful program. The position can be hybrid, when possible, but presence will be required as needed during concept builds in our Product Development Center in Romulus, MI or within our client’s sites. We are looking for candidates with a “can do” attitude who are interested to be part of our expanding positive work environment.
Responsibilities
- Mechanical-related content on projects
- Mechanical development and release activities within a larger RLE team network
- Participate and represent RLE in customer technical meetings
- Support in material specifications in new developments; grade of steel, for example
- Maintain engineering documentation and manage internal and/or customer change management process, ensuring all technical requirements are met and approved.
- Support in preparation of technical documentation, such as 3-D and 2-D CAD, reports, and manuals
- Maintain strong working relationships within RLE and our customers
- Support validation builds, prototype testing, and production readiness activities
- Support vehicle integration activities and validation testing
- Assist with product troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Track technical issues and support resolution with global engineering teams
- Prepare and provide technical reports and documentation as needed
- Testing & Diagnostics
- Quality Support
- Support investigation and resolution of internal or customer quality issues
- Participate in root cause analysis using tools such as 8D, 5Why, and Fishbone
- Follow up on customer claims and ensure proper closure of issues
- Monitor field performance and report product quality status
- Launch & Production Support
- Assist with PPAP preparation and launch support
- Support validation builds, prototype testing, and production readiness activities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience
- 8+ years automotive industry experience
- Knowledge of OEM automotive systems and experience with Ford, GM or Stellantis Teamcenter a plus
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills are critical for working with both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Hands-on Experience: Practical experience with building, assembling, and testing physical components and systems.
- Strong analytical and creative skills to solve complex problems and improve designs
