Role Overview:
The VP of Technology is a forward-thinking, enterprise-minded leader responsible for shaping and executing QBP’s technology and digital strategy. In this role, you will modernize core systems, champion innovation, strengthen operational resilience, and develop a high-performing IT organization that partners deeply with the business. As a senior leader, this position plays a critical role in ensuring that technology fuels growth, operational excellence, and long-term competitiveness, empowering QBP to achieve its business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Vision
- Establish and drive a multi-year technology and digital roadmap that supports growth and operational efficiency.
- Translate strategic goals into actionable plans with clear objectives, milestones, and measurable outcomes.
- Balance short-term operational priorities with long-term initiatives and establish KPIs to track success.
- Establish and maintain a formal enterprise technology prioritization framework that clarifies sequencing, capacity constraints, and decision rights across initiatives.
- Conduct regular roadmap reviews with executive leadership to reassess urgency, re-prioritize work as needed, and ensure alignment to evolving business objectives.
Business Partnership & Influence
- Serve as a trusted advisor, translating technology capabilities into business value.
- Prioritize initiatives with the greatest impact on revenue, market share, and efficiency.
- Communicate decisions, trade-offs, and rationale transparently, setting clear boundaries and saying no when initiatives do not align with strategy, while providing alternatives.
- Advocate for strategic technology investments critical to growth and sustainability.
- Implement a structured intake and governance process to ensure technology requests are evaluated consistently against enterprise priorities, capacity, and strategic impact.
- Create shared accountability models with business leaders for initiative sponsorship, value realization, and post-implementation outcomes.
Modernization & Innovation
- Lead modernization of ERP, e-commerce, Business Intelligence, Warehouse Management, and other enterprise systems.
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies (AI, analytics, automation) to enhance capabilities.
- Promote a culture of innovation, adoption, and continuous improvement.
- Establish and communicate a clear build vs. buy perspective for technology solutions, balancing strategic priorities, cost, scalability, and risks.
- Define and enforce enterprise architecture standards and integration principles to reduce system redundancy, prevent unnecessary customization, and manage long-term technical debt.
Operational Excellence & Risk Management
- Ensure IT systems and processes are reliable, scalable, and secure.
- Manage technical debt, redundancy, and capacity constraints to reduce operational risk.
- Establish clear service level agreements (SLAs), incident escalation protocols, and executive visibility into operational performance and risk metrics.
- Oversee IT governance, IT Regulatory Compliance (e.g. PCI and others as identified), and enterprise security initiatives.
- Provide guidance on enterprise architecture, platform, and integration structures to support scalable, sustainable technology decisions.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the IT leadership team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and high performance.
- Empower IT leaders to make decisions within their areas while maintaining alignment with strategic priorities.
- Maintain organizational design that supports department activities, aligns with staff realities, and preserves stability.
- Promote a leadership philosophy that balances collaboration with decisive action and supports succession planning.
- Provide escalation support for critical projects, vendor management, and prioritization decisions.
Communication & Transparency
- Keep IT and business stakeholders informed on initiatives and priorities.
- Explain the “why” behind decisions and resource allocation.
- Promote fact-based decision-making and transparency across the organization.
Fiscal Responsibility & Resource Optimization
- Develop and manage IT budgets, aligning investments with financial constraints and strategic priorities.
- Optimize resource allocation to maximize business impact, balancing operational needs, innovation, and financial realities.
- Make informed trade-offs between operational priorities, modernization, and resources to deliver maximum value.
- Evaluate total cost of ownership (TCO) and long-term sustainability in all major technology investment decisions.
Cross-Functional & Enterprise Leadership
- Serve as technology leader for major projects, mergers, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to integrate technology into enterprise strategy.
- Drive organizational change and innovation to ensure IT supports long-term business success.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- 10+ years of progressive IT and business leadership in complex organizations with demonstrated leadership in Application and API Development, Infrastructure, Information Security, Support, and Data Management across multiple teams.
- Applicable experience in building and managing a multi-channel technology strategy that enables partner connectivity across ecommerce websites, API, or managed services (such as Shopify, Adobe, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience in leading Project Delivery functions, including Project and Program Management.
- Experience in technology hardware selection and implementation for warehouse and Enterprise technology user use cases
- Proven ability to lead technology strategies, digital transformation, and business partnership initiatives.
- Experience managing enterprise systems (ERP, e-commerce, Warehouse Management, Business Intelligence, cloud infrastructure).
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing IT budgets.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of compliance, security, and risk management in enterprise IT environments.
- Ability to travel approximately 10% domestically and internationally.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in IT, Business Administration, or related field.
- Experience in retail, e-commerce, or consumer-focused businesses.
- Experience leading technology solutions with direct accountability for distribution and/or logistics technology functions.
- Familiarity with SAP S/4 ERP, Java-based e-commerce platforms, Business Intelligence tools (Microsoft and AWS), and cloud technologies (AWS, VMware).
