Mechanical Engineer – Aerospace Turbomachinery Systems
Location: Onsite – Irvine CA
Industry: Aerospace & Defense
Citizenship Requirement: U.S. Citizen
Role Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with turbomachinery experience to support the design and development of advanced aerospace thermal management subsystems across military and commercial platforms.
This role focuses on mechanical subsystem development, including enclosure design, integration of rotating machinery, and early-phase system architecture support. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience developing aerospace-grade subsystems involving compressors, pumps, and fans, with strong understanding of environmental robustness and industry compliance standards.
These programs are entering early development phases prior to PDR, requiring strong mechanical fundamentals, systems awareness, and disciplined engineering execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical enclosures and subsystems incorporating turbomachinery components
- Integrate compressors, pumps, fans, valves, and associated control electronics
- Support early-phase system architecture and mechanical trade studies
- Perform mechanical design for thermal management systems and related subsystems
- Conduct tolerance analysis, GD&T, stack-up analysis, and DFM assessments
- Support environmental qualification planning (shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, EMI/EMC interface considerations)
- Collaborate with electrical, controls, and systems engineering teams for subsystem integration
- Develop detailed CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings (SolidWorks preferred)
- Support prototype builds, testing, and validation efforts
- Participate in risk identification, root cause analysis, and design optimization
- Ensure compliance with aerospace and defense standards and documentation practices
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- 7+ years of experience in Aerospace & Defense mechanical subsystem development
- U.S. Citizen (No Dual Citizenship)
- Direct turbomachinery design or integration experience (compressors, pumps, fans)
- Experience designing enclosures housing electronics and fluid/mechanical components
- Strong mechanical packaging and integration capability
- Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred; strong experience in other platforms acceptable)
- Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis
- Familiarity with aerospace environmental standards (MIL-STD preferred)
- Experience supporting early development phases and design reviews such as PDR/CDR
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of thermal management systems (ECS, vapor cycle, liquid cooling)
- Knowledge of vibration isolation and rotating machinery environmental considerations
- Experience in aerospace configuration control and documentation processes
- Exposure to FMEA, reliability analysis, and lifecycle engineering
