Site Work Foreman
Reports To: Director of Operations
Pay Range: $32 to $40 per hour, depending on experience
Job Summary:
The Site Work Foreman is responsible for leading and managing all onsite activities related to site preparation, earthwork, and underground utility installation. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and project management skills to effectively coordinate crews, subcontractors, and equipment to ensure that projects are completed safely, on time, and to specification.
The ideal candidate has hands-on excavation experience, a deep understanding of utility installation (storm, sanitary, and water), and the ability to manage field operations with minimal oversight. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise field crews in performing excavation, grading, and utility installation tasks. Delegate daily responsibilities, monitor productivity, and maintain a positive, safety-focused work environment.
- Review project plans, specifications, and schedules. Coordinate manpower, equipment, and materials to ensure efficient daily operations and adherence to project timelines.
- Oversee workmanship to ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications, and company standards. Verify trench depths, grades, compaction, and pipe installations.
- Enforce company safety policies and procedures, conduct daily safety meetings, and ensure compliance with OSHA standards. Report incidents and near misses promptly.
- Serve as the primary onsite contact between field crews, the Project Manager, and other stakeholders. Complete and submit daily job reports, equipment logs, and progress updates accurately.
- Identify potential issues or conflicts in the field and resolve them proactively to minimize delays or rework.
- Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and scheduling of excavation equipment such as excavators, backhoes, skid steers, and dozers.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Availability to work out of town as required by project schedules.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in site work or excavation, including 2+ years in a foreman or lead role.
- Strong understanding of grading, earthwork, and underground utility installation (storm, sanitary, and water systems).
- Proven ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, and grade stakes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing site conditions.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and crew development.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- GPS layout or equipment operating experience is a plus.
