Valinor Technologies designs and manufactures portable, solar-powered saunas with integrated cold plunge systems. Our modular units combine competitive pricing with mobile-controlled convenience, making scientifically-proven heat and cold therapy accessible to everyone. We're building self-sustainable wellness infrastructure that helps people live healthier, longer lives. As our first Head of Mechanical Engineering, you'll establish the production foundation for a new product category by locking down a design that's fast to assemble, safe to ship, and engineered to withstand extreme heat and moisture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead product design and engineering utilizing CAD and design for manufacturability/assembly (DFM/DFA) principles to ensure production readiness.
- Define wood joinery approach (Japanese fitting techniques) optimized for non-expert assembly.
- Establish ECO/ECR processes and develop reliability test plans covering thermal cycling, moisture exposure, and shipping vibration.
- Coordinate interface control with electrical engineering (heater, sensors, chiller/battery provisions) and establish packaging/logistics requirements for flatpack shipping, product protection, and handling.
- Manage design tolerances and mechanical analysis, including stackup studies, FEA validation, fastener/adhesive selection, and mitigation strategies for corrosion and thermal expansion.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of mechanical design experience with products exposed to extreme heat and moisture environments, with proven ownership of DFM/DFA optimization and reliability validation.
- Expert-level proficiency in CAD and PDM systems (SolidWorks/Onshape preferred).
- Expertise in tolerance analysis
- Expertise working with fasteners and adhesives
- Expertise in packaging for flatpack and LTL
- Knowledge of wood material properties and traditional Japanese joinery techniques, with demonstrated ability to design intuitive assemblies
- Track record of cross-functional collaboration with electrical and controls teams on thermal system integration (heaters, chillers, sensors), plus experience managing supplier relationships
Salary: $140,000 - $175,000 USD
