MissionHires is seeking a hands-on Logistics Manager (Freight Operations) to lead and optimize all inbound and outbound transportation for a growing manufacturing client in Elkhart, Indiana. Reporting to the VP of Operations, you will own flatbed and standard freight operations (10–20 loads/week), manage brokers and third-party carriers, improve freight margin through smart load planning, and ensure on-time, cost-effective deliveries. Ideal for candidates from brokerage, 3PL, or manufacturing logistics with strong carrier management and freight P&L experience.
How You'll Contribute
- Manage all inbound and outbound freight operations for flatbed and standard shipments
- Source, negotiate, and manage relationships with freight brokers and third-party carriers (non-asset environment)
- Optimize load planning to maximize trailer utilization, reduce costs, and improve freight margin
- Own freight P&L performance, including cost control, budgeting support, and margin improvement
- Coordinate shipping schedules with production, dealers, customers, and site teams
- Arrange customer and dealer shipments and act as primary logistics point of contact
- Oversee logistics documentation, shipping paperwork, and compliance requirements
- Track shipments, resolve issues, and proactively manage delays or disruptions
- Develop freight processes, KPIs, and reporting to improve visibility and performance
- Continuously evaluate carriers, lanes, and routing strategies to enhance service and reduce cost
- Communicate clearly and consistently with internal stakeholders and external partners
- Support growth initiatives by scaling freight strategies as volume increases
What Makes You a Great Fit
- 3–7+ years in logistics, transportation, freight brokerage, or supply chain (manufacturing a plus)
- Proven knowledge of flatbed and standard freight, load planning, and carrier management
- Experience managing freight brokers and third-party carriers in a non-asset-based environment
- Demonstrated success managing freight costs, margins, and transportation performance
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; able to manage multiple shipments and priorities
- Excellent communication skills with customers, dealers, vendors, and internal teams
- Experience with logistics documentation, shipping paperwork, and transportation processes
- Proficiency with ERP, TMS, or logistics/shipping systems, or strong aptitude to learn
- Hands-on, proactive, and business-minded approach to logistics and operations
- Ability to work on-site in Elkhart, Indiana and coordinate 10–20 loads per week
