The Senior Engineering Project Manager is responsible for leading major capital projects (>$30MM USD) across Henkel's North American operations. This role owns the full project lifecycle—from conceptual design and feasibility through execution and deployment—ensuring alignment with corporate strategy, operational excellence, and safety standards.
The position may require oversight of multiple projects simultaneously across different manufacturing sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional project teams to deliver large-scale capital projects exceeding $30MM.
- Own full project lifecycle management including conceptual design, budgeting, detailed planning, execution, commissioning, and closeout.
- Develop detailed cost estimates and comprehensive project plans for all project phases.
- Manage scope, timelines, budget, resources, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Drive feasibility studies, vendor selection processes, and stakeholder evaluation.
- Define Statements of Work (SOW) and technical specifications for goods and services.
- Monitor and control project workstreams, resolving conflicts, dependencies, and critical path risks.
- Provide executive-level reporting on milestones, deliverables, and risks.
- Ensure full compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.
- Lead and participate in:
- HAZOP studies
- Management of Change (MOC)
- Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR)
- Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
- Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) development and implementation
- Understand and manage interdependencies between technology, operations, and business strategy.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering required.
- Chemical Engineering strongly preferred.
Experience
- 15-20 years of hands-on capital project management experience within chemical manufacturing facilities.
- Proven experience managing multi-site projects and concurrent large-scale initiatives.
- Demonstrated expertise in project and program management methodologies.
Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM).
- Advanced risk assessment and hazard analysis capabilities.
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to quickly learn new chemistries and manufacturing processes.
