Summary:
The Assembly & Fabrication Supervisor is responsible for leading and supervising assembly and fabrication teams to ensure safe, high-quality, and on-time production of products. This role oversees daily operations, workforce planning, training, and performance management across both assembly and fabrication functions. The Supervisor serves as a key liaison between production, engineering, quality, and leadership, ensuring operational efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement.
This position is hands-on and requires strong technical knowledge in assembly, welding, fabrication, and metal processing, along with proven leadership skills.
Accountabilities:
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise and lead teams of approximately 10–15 employees across assembly and fabrication operations
- Train, mentor, coach, and develop team members through skill tiers and career progression
- Provide ongoing performance feedback, conduct 1:1 check-ins, and support annual performance reviews
- Recognize and reward individual and team achievements
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee questions related to policies, attendance, procedures, and daily operations
- Escalate employee relations issues, conflicts, or grievances to management as needed
Production & Operations
- Plan, assign, and manage daily workloads to meet production schedules, quality standards, and delivery commitments
- Coordinate closely with other supervisors, leads, and managers to align production priorities
- Review and correct timesheets; ensure accurate job clocking and timekeeping compliance
- Ensure assembly and fabrication tasks are completed according to engineering drawings, work instructions, and quality standards
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and shop documents; identify and communicate discrepancies
Technical Oversight
- Oversee assembly operations including enclosure builds, mechanical assembly, and related processes
- Oversee fabrication operations including layout, forming, brake press setup, welding, and stainless-steel sheet metal fabrication
- Ensure proper setup, operation, maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication of fabrication equipment and tooling
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of basic to complex production and equipment issues
- Provide subject matter expertise in welding, fabrication, and/or assembly processes
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure quality checklists and inspections are completed accurately and consistently
- Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Identify process inefficiencies and partner with engineering and quality teams to implement improvements
- Support lean manufacturing, value stream improvements, and standard work initiatives where applicable
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all company safety policies, OSHA, and HSE standards
- Ensure consistent use of required PPE and safe operation of equipment, cranes, forklifts, and lifts
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work environment
- Lead by example to promote a strong safety-first culture
Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate clearly and professionally with employees, leadership, and cross-functional teams
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to share production feedback and resolve issues
- Utilize company communication and ERP systems effectively
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical training preferred
- Minimum 3 years of experience in assembly and/or fabrication in a manufacturing environment
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in welding, fabrication, or related disciplines
- Prior experience leading or supervising teams in a production environment
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of jobsite safety practices and manufacturing equipment
- Proficient in basic math and use of measurement tools (tape measure, calipers, gauges)
- Experience operating or overseeing overhead cranes, forklifts, and scissor lifts (certification preferred)
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
- Reliable attendance and professional conduct
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
- Lean manufacturing experience (LSSGB or higher a plus)
- Experience with capacity planning, scheduling, and ERP systems
- APICS CPIM or similar certification preferred
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods during an 8–10 hour shift
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 100 lbs
- Ability to work in a heavy manufacturing environment and varying conditions
