About Us
e184 is a biotechnology research company advancing in vitro gametogenesis to transform reproductive medicine. We're developing integrated platforms that combine cellular reprogramming, machine learning-guided optimization, multi-omics analysis, and automated experimental workflows to enable gamete development for individuals facing reproductive challenges. We're assembling interdisciplinary teams across cell and molecular engineering, synthetic biology, epigenetic editing, bioinformatics and computational biology to tackle one of biology's most impactful problems - returning the fundamental right to procreate.
Role overview
We are seeking an independent, creative scientist to lead the design and execution of high-throughput screening campaigns aimed at identifying reprogramming factors that control cellular differentiation programs. Reporting to the Team Lead and Chief Scientific Officer, you will play a foundational role in establishing our screening platforms from the ground up, working collaboratively with computational biologists and cell biology experts within a small, mission-driven team. This position offers exceptional autonomy and ownership in a flat organizational structure, with direct impact on critical proof-of-concept milestones and the opportunity to tackle challenging biological problems using novel approaches at the forefront of stem cell and developmental biology.
Primary Responsibilities
- Scientific impact: Contribute to breakthrough technologies in cellular biology with potential to transform human health. Work on challenging scientific problems at the forefront of stem cell biology and functional genomics
- Ownership and growth: Take scientific ownership of critical projects from conception through execution. Gain experience spanning screening, genome editing, assay development, and computational analysis - building a diverse skill set valuable across the biotech industry
- Collaborative environment: Work alongside domain-expert scientists and computational biologists in a highly collaborative, mission-driven culture where your contributions directly shape company direction
- Growth opportunities: This role offers exposure to the full lifecycle of target discovery-from high-throughput screening through mechanistic validation-as well as opportunities to develop leadership skills, and contribute to scientific publications and patent applications. As the company grows, there are clear paths to senior scientist and project leadership roles
- Unique opportunity at early-stage biotech startup: Hands-on involvement in building experimental platforms and workflows from the ground up rather than inheriting established systems; direct collaboration with founders and leadership team; opportunity to wear multiple hats and develop skills across experimental and computational domains; work in a well-funded startup
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related field
- Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, including iPSCs
- Demonstrated experience with high-throughput screening approaches (pooled and/or arrayed formats)
- Proficiency with genome editing technologies (CRISPR/Cas9 or similar)
- Experience developing and optimizing quantitative cellular assays
- Molecular biology techniques (cloning, plasmid design, library construction)
- Flow cytometry or high-content imaging for cellular analysis
- Experimental design and data analysis for screening campaigns
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable with ambiguity in an early-stage environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Postdoctoral training or 1-3 years of industry experience
- Track record of high-throughput screening from design through validation
- Experience with reporter cell line development and validation
- Familiarity with arrayed screening platforms and automation
- Experience with sequencing technologies (RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, or genomic screening readouts)
- Proficiency with bioinformatics tools and programming languages (R, Python)
- Knowledge of functional genomics approaches
- Publications demonstrating expertise in relevant areas
- Experience in biotech startup or fast-paced research environment
- Familiarity with designing iterative experimental strategies
- Prior involvement in target discovery or validation programs
