Job Description
Baptist Health Care is seeking a strategic, innovative, and collaborative Chief Information Officer (CIO) to lead the organization’s digital transformation and information technology strategy. The CIO will be responsible for aligning technology initiatives with Baptist Health Care’s mission to improve patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making across the health system.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive IT strategy aligned with organizational goals and clinical priorities.
- Oversee the management of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, and data governance.
- Lead digital transformation initiatives, including cloud migration, interoperability, and modernization of legacy systems.
- Collaborate with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders to ensure technology solutions support high-quality patient care.
- Drive innovation through the adoption of emerging technologies, including AI, machine learning, and predictive analytics.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and other regulatory requirements related to health information systems.
- Manage vendor relationships, contract negotiations, and technology procurement.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing IT team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor IT performance metrics and report progress to executive leadership and the board.
Electronic Health Record (EHR) Leadership
- Oversee the implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of the organization’s EHR system (e.g., Epic, Oracle Health).
- Ensure EHR systems are fully integrated with clinical workflows and support quality care delivery.
- Collaborate with clinical informatics and operational teams to enhance usability, reduce clinician burden, and improve documentation efficiency.
- Lead initiatives to improve data interoperability, patient access, and health information exchange.
- Monitor EHR performance and user satisfaction, and drive continuous improvement based on feedback and analytics.
AI and Innovation Leadership
- Champion the integration of artificial intelligence and automation to enhance clinical decision support, operational workflows, and patient engagement.
- Evaluate and implement AI-driven tools for diagnostics, population health management, and predictive modeling.
- Ensure ethical and responsible use of AI technologies, addressing bias, transparency, and data privacy.
- Collaborate with data scientists and informatics leaders to leverage data for strategic insights and innovation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare IT or digital transformation.
- Proven success in leading enterprise-wide technology initiatives in a complex healthcare environment.
- Strong understanding of healthcare operations, clinical workflows, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with EHR systems and health information exchange platforms.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills.
- Successfully led a hospital Electronic Health Record implementation- Epic or Oracle Health
Preferred Experience
- Experience in a multi-hospital health system or integrated delivery network.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and risk management.
- Knowledge of AI applications in healthcare and digital health innovation.
