Mechanical Engineer, Advanced Nuclear Energy Systems
This opportunity is for a mechanical engineer who wants to work on one of the most ambitious challenges in modern energy engineering. The role focuses on the design and realization of compact nuclear power systems intended for rapid deployment in demanding environments. These systems are built to deliver reliable, long duration power where traditional infrastructure falls short, including critical facilities, remote operations, and defense related applications.
You will join a fast moving, hardware focused engineering organization developing factory built nuclear microreactors. The work emphasizes practical design, rigorous engineering fundamentals, and hands on execution. Engineers in this role see their designs progress from early concepts through analysis, fabrication, testing, and production.
What You Will Work On
- Design and development of mechanical components and assemblies that support power generation and thermal management systems
- Creation of detailed part and system designs including structures, enclosures, interfaces, and moving mechanisms
- Structural evaluation of components using first principles calculations and finite element analysis to assess stress, deformation, and fatigue
- Preparation of clear technical documentation, design reports, and review materials to support engineering decisions
- Hands on support of hardware builds, assembly efforts, and testing campaigns for prototype and early production units
Core Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Two or more years of experience designing and analyzing mechanical hardware or systems
- Strong proficiency with CAD and analysis tools, including experience with tolerancing and GD and T
- Solid grounding in mechanical fundamentals including structures, materials, fluid behavior, and thermodynamics
- Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts through writing, presentations, and collaborative discussions
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and comfort working through ambiguous engineering challenges
Experience That Stands Out
- Background supporting power generation, energy infrastructure, or industrial equipment
- Experience selecting materials for high temperature, high load, or harsh operating conditions
- Hands on involvement with mechanical testing, instrumentation, or experimental validation
- Exposure to areas such as heat transfer, dynamics, mechanisms, or structural design
- Familiarity with engineering standards such as ASME, ISO, API, or similar frameworks
- Prior experience in nuclear related work is welcome but not required
Work Environment and Expectations
- Ability to work fully onsite in a collaborative engineering and manufacturing environment
- Willingness to support critical milestones with extended hours when necessary
- Comfort working on hardware programs that involve regulated technology and export controlled systems
Compensation And Benefits
- Competitive base salary with meaningful equity participation
- Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage
- Paid parental leave and flexible time off policies
- Daily meals, snacks, and a strong in person team culture
- Access to modern facilities located near the Southern California coast
This role is ideal for engineers who want to build real hardware, work on systems that matter at a national and global level, and be part of a team pushing the boundaries of what is possible in clean, reliable energy.
