Description
As Dispatch I, you are responsible for scheduling trips for freight deliveries, including scheduling drivers and routes. The role is a central contact point for both truck drivers and customers, coordinating the shipping process. In this fast-paced position, Dispatchers are responsible for multiple trucks, customers, drivers and routes, which requires attention to detail. They also monitor trucks and drivers once they are on route, and they help if an issue arises with a pickup or delivery.
Requirements
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Receive and respond to calls and dispatch requests
- Communicate schedule changes or delays to drivers and customers
- Act as liaison for drivers and transportation management
- Ensure driver compliance with ELD, DOT, TSA, and fleet maintenance standards
- Maintain fleet insurance, licensing, and compliance records
- Support special transportation projects and route optimization
- Provide dispatch operational support and resolve customer inquiries professionally
- Ensure driver safety requirements are met at all times
- Plan and adjust routes for efficiency based on traffic, weather, and staffing
- Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports
- Perform other duties as assigned
Administrative
- Process daily and weekly bonds
- Maintain accurate data storage and review reports
- Manage and maintain route schedules
- Process customer orders efficiently
- Utilize CargoWise to create work orders and Bills of Lading (BOLs) as needed
Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and integrity
- Take ownership of tasks and complete them on time
- Ability to interact well with others, follow oral/written instructions
- Flexible and adaptable to changing operational needs
- Read, write, and comprehend basic checklists, forms, and documents
- Physically able to stand, walk, reach, climb, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs. using safe techniques
- Willing to work flexible schedules, including overtime when needed
- Follow all SLAs and SWIs
Qualifications & Skills Needed
- High school diploma
- 2–4 years’ experience in logistics or dispatching
- Knowledge of local geography, traffic patterns, and inventory control
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- SAP and RF equipment experience a plus
- Familiarity with dispatching software, GPS tracking systems
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills
- Excellent verbal/written communication; customer-focused
- Ability to remain calm under pressure; high accuracy and attention to detail
- Understanding of shipping, receiving, transportation, and LEAN principles (6S)
- Assertive and collaborative; able to meet high-volume demands
- May require light power tool use
