Nature of Work
Under general direction, performs work of moderate difficulty directing the operational functions of the Information Technology (IT) department systems; performs related work as assigned.

Typical Duties
(Illustrative Only)
- Administers the day to day IT systems including monitoring / backup of systems and on-site responsibility for systems functions
- Administers the active directory security policies, user and email accounts, data backups and anti-virus systems
- Plans deploys, manages and optimizes Microsoft-based enterprise solutions
- Provides state-of-the-art solutions for high availability and fault tolerance
- Installs, configures, documents and supports Microsoft Server in an enterprise environment
- Performs installation, configuration and deployment of new Microsoft servers
- Maintains inventory of equipment and vendors
- Researches, recommends and deploys IT hardware and services
- Documents systems for end user and other IT personnel
- Analyzes system faults, troubleshoots, and runs diagnostic tests on operating systems and hardware to detect problems
- Supports end users and other IT teams such as helpdesk, desktop support and application development at Tier 2 and 3 levels
- Identifies priorities and resolves escalated hardware and server issues
- Performs activities related to planning, installation, operational, administrative and technical support of Operating systems environment, and associated hardware/ software components
- Troubleshoots software and hardware problems, and identifies, implements and documents system fixes
- Maintains awareness of and participates in planning of upgrades
- Other duties as assigned
Essential functions include but are not limited to: sitting; standing; walking; working with and around others; working alone on projects; interruptions; repetitive motion using keyboard; vision acuity (near/far) to use keyboard and monitor; color vision to work with color computer monitors; hearing and speech for ordinary conversation; finger dexterity to use keyboard.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer information systems (CIS) or related field and four years of experience in a systems administration role; OR,
Associate's degree in CIS or related field and five years of experience in a systems administration role; OR,
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Preferred qualifications include experience within the public sector; radio installation and radio repair experience; and experience working in a law enforcement or criminal justice environment.
Please Note
Candidates being considered for this position would be required to demonstrate efficiency in the following: Current Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or a minimum of five years performing the following: Extensive experience using Active Directory Domain Services including DNS, group policies, AD Security using Microsoft Server 2012 and 2016 servers
Power Shell Working knowledge using Cisco routers switches and firewalls. Cisco Fire Power/Call Manager, VMware, Citrix, Disaster Recovery applications
This position is non-exempt.
This position isa 24/7 on-call position.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Thorough knowledge of:
- VMWare and Microsoft Operation Systems
- Networks, protocols, and standards including Ethernet, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP and SNMP
- Core software applications, including Active Directory, Exchange Server, IIS, SQL Server, Clustering, file/print services, backup/restore technologies, group policy and PowerShell scripting
- Dell hardware, blackberry services, Microsoft office Suites and datacenter operations
- Installing, configuring and maintaining all manners of server hardware and associated network environment
- Server performance tuning and monitoring tools
- Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting techniques
- SAN NAS storage solutions
- Installation, configuring and deploying techniques for Microsoft servers/ clusters
- Working knowledge of:
- WMware infrastructure
- Programming languages
- Windows, Mac and/or Linux server administration and integration
- Cisco, Dell routers, servers and switches functions
- Perfmon and 3rd party monitoring and altering tools
- Mobile computing technologies
- Virtual desktop deployments
- Cloud bases technologies including VOIP, Exchange, and Backup
- Ability to:
- Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in high-pressure environment
- Conduct research into systems issues and products as requires
- Effectively communicate ideas to technical and not technical audiences
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Work safely and promote a culture of workplace safety
