Disaster Relief Content & Storytelling Specialist
Matthew 25: Ministries – Cincinnati, OH
Matthew 25: Ministries is seeking a highly skilled disaster relief storyteller with strong capabilities in photography, videography, editing, and narrative development to document and communicate the real impact of our work in the field. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that the stories of disaster survivors, responders, and partners are captured with dignity, accuracy, and emotional resonance.
This is not a standard marketing role — this is a field-based content mission role embedded within our Disaster Relief Department. The ideal candidate is just as comfortable editing a compelling featurette as they are deployed following a natural disaster, gathering footage and human stories in emotionally sensitive environments.
Key Responsibilities
Field Deployment & Content Capture
- Deploy to areas impacted by natural disasters (average up to 10 deployments per year, typically 5–10 days each, often with 24-hour notice) to photograph, film, interview, and document Matthew 25’s disaster relief operations.
- Capture high-quality photo and video content of our mobile units, disaster response team, partner activations, supply distribution, and community impact.
- Conduct sensitive interviews with disaster survivors, first responders, volunteers, and partners — ensuring their voices are captured respectfully and authentically.
- Work closely with our Disaster Relief team to understand operational timelines and capture content that aligns with both storytelling and partner reporting needs.
Story Development & Editorial Production
- Edit footage into powerful short films, reels, social stories, impact highlights, and partner recap videos.
- Build compelling narrative packages that showcase both human impact and partner visibility.
- Deliver final content in formats ready for immediate deployment across social media, partner reports, website, and media outlets.
- Craft evergreen content during non-disaster periods to prepare storytelling assets for future activations.
Proactive Content Creation (Non-Deployment)
- Identify and develop content series in advance — such as “Behind the Deployment,” “Day in the Field,” “What Relief Looks Like,” or “Stories of Hope”.
- Maintain a ready-to-go content library for rapid activation during disasters.
- Capture content of donor-supported assets (mobile laundry units, charging stations, product distributions, etc.) for corporate visibility and documentation.
Schedule (Non-Deployment)
- Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in professional photography, videography, and editing — portfolio required.
- Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop, and/or Final Cut Pro. Experience in other Adobe Suite programs including InDesign, and Illustrator is a plus.
- Strong storytelling instincts — ability to turn raw footage and field interviews into emotionally compelling and mission-aligned content.
- Experience conducting on-camera interviews in sensitive or high-stress environments (disaster, humanitarian work, journalistic field reporting, or documentary).
- Ability to travel on short notice and operate independently in field conditions with limited direction.
- Strong understanding of ethical storytelling in disaster/humanitarian contexts — dignity-focused, impact-first communications.
- Self-directed creative — able to pitch, plan, and execute content concepts without waiting for assignments.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of social media and social media marketing
- A clear understanding of the importance of brand recognition and maintaining high brand standards
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
Ideal Background
- Humanitarian storytelling, documentary work, NGO media, field journalism, or similar.
- Experience working alongside logistics, field ops, first responders, or relief teams is a plus.
- Comfortable with irregular travel, changing environments, and working hands-on in areas impacted by natural disasters.
Experience
- 5 Years in Related Fields (Preferred)
- A chance to create content that directly reaches donors, partners, and hundreds of thousands of supporters, influencing real-time giving and expanding relief efforts.
- Work that deeply matters — your footage and stories will directly support resource mobilization and partner development.
- Deployment with disaster response teams, not just post-production — you are embedded in the mission, not observing from afar.
