Salary: $80,000-$95,000
Lightwave Logic (Nasdaq: LWLG) is a publicly traded materials development company that is conducting cutting-edge work to commercialize its proprietary organic nonlinear polymers for a variety of electro-optic devices and pushing the state of the art in high-speed fiber-optic telecom and data communications. Our development roadmap is designed to disrupt the industry by introducing organic modulators and related photonic integrated circuits that offer superior speed, lower power consumption, and smaller size compared to current technologies. Our materials are extendable into other applications, including sensors and quantum computing.
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Materials Science Engineer to join our innovative and fast-growing organization. The Material Science Engineer plays a crucial role in advancing our understanding of electro-optic organic compounds through active collaboration with senior research chemists and engineers. They engage in the formulation and application of polymer solutions to create innovative thin films, utilizing various deposition techniques. Their analytical skills are essential in interpreting material and thin film characterizations, contributing to the assessment of their performance and stability. This role requires a commitment to rigorous documentation practices and a collaborative spirit, fostering teamwork while adhering to safety protocols and laboratory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with senior research chemists and engineers to evaluate and understand the chemical, material, and optical properties of novel electro-optic organic compounds.
- Formulate and prepare polymer solutions following the direction of a senior chemist/materials engineer.
- Prepare single- and multi-layer thin films from a variety of polymer solutions using a range of deposition methods (spin-coaters, sputter systems, and ALD tools)
- Perform and interpret thin film characterizations such as film quality, thickness, adhesion, stability, thermal aging, and refractive index.
- Perform and interpret material characterizations such as UV-Vis absorbance, FTIR spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermo-gravimetric analysis.
- Execute experiments designed in conjunction with senior chemists and engineers to test material performance.
- Document work thoroughly and keep ELN databases updated.
- Ensure that a spirit of teamwork and cooperation always exists within the group; collaborate effectively between groups.
- Exhibit safety awareness by following safe working practices and common laboratory hygiene.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- BS or MS in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related materials science field.
- Experience operating and analyzing results from a variety of lab instrumentation (e.g., UV-Vis, FTIR, DSC, TGA, Ellipsometer, microscope).
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow instructions, including standard operating procedures and processes.
- Quality-first mindset: exacting attention to detail is essential for this position.
- Growth mindset: willingness to learn and adaptability to take on new duties, tasks, and challenges.
