Firelake Construction Inc. is seeking a General Construction Inspector supporting the Center Operations Directorate at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) in Hampton, Virginia on the CMIST-II contract. The position will provide on-site and off-site inspection of a wide range of commercial and industrial construction projects.
This is a full-time union position requiring daily onsite work Monday through Friday. Responsibilities include:
- Inspection of metal stud framing during construction ensuring code compliance
- Inspection of drywall installed during construction ensuring code compliance
- Inspection of excavations and backfill during construction ensuring specification compliance
- Inspection of commercial and industrial roofing systems ensuring specification compliance
- Inspection of concrete form work, rebar and concrete placement ensuring specification compliance
- Inspection of industrial painting systems ensuring specification compliance
- Inspection of architectural features installed during construction ensuring specification compliance
- Written daily inspection reports for multiple ongoing projects to include written findings along with photographic documentation
- Perform occasional trade worker wage surveys
- Ability to read and interpret project plans, specifications, and product submittals.
Additional responsibilities include working closely with the LaRC GIS Team for issuance of dig permits to Contractors for underground utilities. Occasional overtime work on weekends, early mornings, and evenings. Attend project kick-off meetings and progress meetings. Communicate by phone and email with government Project Managers assigned to projects along with General Contractors and their Subcontractors.
Ideal candidate will have a Virginia State Contractors license issued by DPOR. A minimum of 15 years of experience in commercial or industrial construction projects is required. A working knowledge of OSHA requirements is also necessary.
Additional requirements include proficiency with MS Office, good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work in a team environment. The ability to keep multiple project inspections organized and coordinated with onsite Contractors. Ability to walk through active construction sites and facilities, climb ladders, remain standing for extended periods, work while wearing PPE/Respiratory Protection, and lift 35 pounds required.
