Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent AND successful completion of EMT school and NREMT licensure at time of hire or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of emergency medical techniques, procedures, and practices; uses and effects of a variety of medications and drugs utilized on accident victims; rescue tools and emergency equipment carried in an ambulance, firefighting methods and procedures; interpersonal communication skills; state code, regulations, and laws affecting firefighting and ambulance service.
- Skill in the use of ambulance service equipment.
- Ability to recognize and interpret vital signs of accident and illness victims; make critical life and death decisions quickly and accurately; work under extreme mental tension and pressures; work a variety of shifts for long hours; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; effectively deal with demanding and traumatic situations; work in all weather conditions; develop effective working relationships with supervisors, medical professionals, fellow employees, and the public.
- Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License.
