Job SummaryThe position will construct and repair building frameworks and structures—such as stairways, doorframes, partitions, and rafters—made from wood and other materials. They also may install kitchen cabinets, siding, and drywall. In addition, the role performs skilled masonry work, building, altering and repairing brick, stone, tile or ceramic structures and surfaces. Essential Functions
- Prepares surfaces prior to beginning work
- Fabricates, alters, repairs, and maintains walls, sidewalks, street curbs, floors, bathroom showers, sink counters, partitions, manholes, and other related structures or surface
- Lays blocks or bricks following blueprints, plans, or drawings
- Determines work requirements and sequence of masonry/tile assignments through review of work orders, plans, or drawings
- Lays out work using chalk lines, plumb bobs, tapes, squares, and levels
- Mixes cement using hoes, cement-mixing equipment, and/or hand tools
- Cuts or brakes bricks and concrete using hammers, powered abrasive saws, paving breakers, drills, and/or hand tools
- Molds expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge
- Follow blueprints and building plans to meet the needs of clients
- Install structures and fixtures, such as windows and molding
- Measure, cur, or shape wood, plastic, and other materials
- Construct building frameworks with the aid of rigging hardware and cranes
- Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures
- All other duties assigned by Maintenance Supervisor or Property Manager
Qualifications and Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent is a plus
- Vocational training in masonry or carpentry is preferred
- Professional experience in masonry or carpentry is a plus
- Must clear an OIG Exclusion Search
- Must demonstrate the ability to remain personable and professional when dealing with difficult situations
- Must be able to learn at a faster than average pace
- Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to talk, hear, stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, push, pull, twist, jump, sprint, throw and lean up to 90% of the time
- Must be able to lift and/or move items over 50lbs
- May be required to have excellent stamina and quickly move arms and legs
- May be required to performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions
- May be required to have a good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arms, two hands) and multi-limb coordination
