Champs Construction Contractors, LLC is a specialized home remodeling company dedicated to restoring and revitalizing properties, often starting from catastrophic damage. We handle full-scale renovations, from initial fire damage (burnouts) and water damage remediation to transforming blighted homes. We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable General Laborer to join our team. This role is fundamental to the entire operation, primarily focused on heavy demolition, debris removal, site prep, and supporting skilled tradespeople on complex restoration projects.
Key Responsibilities
Demolition & Site Preparation
- Perform heavy-duty demolition, including the tear-out of burned materials, water-damaged structures, and outdated/hazardous elements in blighted properties.
- Safely and efficiently remove damaged structural components, which may include burned roof rafters, subflooring, damaged foundations, and internal walls.
- Operate basic hand tools (sledgehammers, crowbars, shovels, etc.) and small power tools (reciprocating saws, drills, etc.) under supervision.
- Assist in the setup of protective barriers, temporary supports, and scaffolding.
Debris Management & Cleanup
- Load and haul construction debris, including heavy, irregular, and often wet or charred materials, into dumpsters or vehicles.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment throughout all phases of the project, including sweeping, washing down surfaces, and organizing tools/materials.
- Sort and properly dispose of materials (recycling, hazardous waste, general construction waste).
Project Support
- Move, stage, and secure construction materials (lumber, drywall, roofing, etc.) for skilled tradespeople.
- Assist carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and other professionals with non-specialized tasks as directed.
- Perform basic tasks like digging trenches, mixing concrete, simple carpentry (under supervision), and running errands for materials.
Qualifications
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform continuous, rigorous physical labor in all weather conditions, including lifting and carrying heavy objects ($50+$ lbs$) repeatedly, standing for long periods, bending, and kneeling.
- Experience: Previous experience in construction, demolition, or a physically demanding role is preferred, but we will train motivated candidates. Experience working on disaster/remediation sites is a significant plus.
- Safety Conscious: Strong commitment to working safely, including wearing all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Reliability: Must be punctual, dependable, and ready to start work on time at various job sites.
- Communication: Ability to follow verbal instructions clearly and work effectively as part of a team.
- Tools: Must have basic knowledge of and ability to use common hand tools.
Physical Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
This position requires substantial physical strength and endurance. Candidates must be comfortable working in environments that may be dirty, dusty, noisy, or contain mold/mildew (with proper PPE). The ability to climb ladders, work on uneven surfaces, and handle hazardous materials responsibly is essential.
